Boot lid adjustment on grif

Rather sadly and probably due to OCD I have been up the garage tonight trying to get the lid fitting square. Had some success but the top of the lid near the hood sits about 5mm above the bodywork and tapers to a good fit at the rear of the car.

It would appear there is adjustment from front to back and a small amount sideways, but is there any adjustment to pull the lid down towards the hinges? It would appear not.

Further investigation seems to show the lip that the boot seal sits on seems rather high and the lid can't drop any lower. So, assuming I can't adjust it's height, I think the lid would drop lower if I trimmed off the lip by a few mm. Any thoughts on this approach?

try removing the rubber seal, its a simple tap back on job to put it back, just to see if the back edge does sit down flush.

have you recently fitted a new seal, which is why its now sitting up high?

This is possible,
effectively you need to lower the boot lid hinge where it is mounted to the car body. Remove the nuts attached to the hinge mounting bolts(3 or 4 both sides) and fit washers between the body and hinge mounting. You may find you only need to add washers to the bolts nearest to the rear screen. I needed to raise the boot lid a touch on the o/s near to the rear screen, I loosened the nut nearest the screen and removed 1 of the washers. I found the washer already slotted so it slid off the bolt without having to remove the nut, I guess this is how the factory adjusted the boot lid height at the side closest to the rear screen.

Yes it is a new seal (6 months ago) and I have taped it down as far as it will go. If I take the seal off the boot is fine. Question is by fitting a spacer on the bracket fitted to the body will it pull the lid down or do I need to shave a bit off the lip the seal sits on? There is enough depth in the lip to shave it IYSWIM

Thanks ozstyle. Certainly sounds easier than shaving the lip but by doing this does it actual pull the lid down or will the seal still pack the gap and stop it coming any lower?

I shaved a bit off the lip on my Griff - it didn't make any difference. On mine the right hand corner by the hood always sits a couple of mm high but if I press on it it will sit flush. I'm sure it's something to do with the design of the hinge which doesn't seem to be able to pull the lid down.
