Hello members and Opieoilman, please can you help me out if possible.

I've got a 2001(x reg) VW Polo 1.4E (Petrol)automatic, from what i gather from the 'user manual', it's either a 40kw or 55kw engine, the manual also states the VW oil approval rateings of VW500.00 & VW502.00, the car has a Hydraulic valve system, and without 'Turbo'

The car is used in London, but not in very heavy rushour times generally, and also for some motorway journeys.

I have spoken to VW, and they have said that i can use a fully-synthetic oil (no problems with seals & gaskets), and that they positively recommend it, they also said that the oil approval rateings for this particular model are set to it's minimum spec grade, it is not on an 'Extended service regime', so any type of oil would still need changing every 5 or 7,000 miles or 6 to 12 months.

The issue i'm trying to address is regarding, quieting the 'Drivetrain', tappets and general engine noise, and increasing protection at cold starts, and throughout the driving temperatures, while still maintaining oil pressures not reducing mileage or increasing emissions.

I have found out that Motul is regarded as being well suited to this car, and our british climate, and the achievements i'm trying to gain, but there are two products from there range offered to me, they are..

Motual 8100 x-cess 5w-40 synthetic(VW 502 00 / 505 00)
&
Motul 8100 E-tech 0w-40 Sythetic-Ester based (VW 502 00 / 505 00 / 503.01)

My question to Opieoilman is, which of these products do you think will give me the results i'm looking for, while not putting the engine through any possible future risk of damage (0w-40 concerns me here, because of the 0w viscosity, and it's 'Ester' base), your veiws would be very helpful.

Hi,

Both oils are suitable. The Motul 8100 5w-40 is a medium range synthetic and ideal if you change the oil every 8-10,000 miles. The Motul 8100 0w-40 is a strange one as it is an ester based synthetic within the medium 8100 range from Motul, this is a good thing mind as ester has many benefits for both performance and protection and also good for 10,000 miles.

In the uk there isnt much difference between 0w and 5w so either is fine.

End of the day the best is the 8100 0w-40, of course available from us at great prices

Cheers

Guy.

Make Honda
Model Civic Type R
Year 2000
Engine size and type L4 1.6 DOHC VTEC

Brand and viscosity currently used:
motul xcess 8100 5w-30
castrol rs 10w60

I've read that you say that the RS oil is not fully synthetic and I wondered why... can you point me to some detailed source of information about this?

thanks a lot!

I have a seat 00' Ibiza Sport 1.6 and it's due for a oil change. It has standard 10-40w oil in from the dealer, could I change it to Motul 300V 5-40W? as i have some laying around.
Thanks
Ollie
