This is excellent, loads of posts on here about how bad it is and ruining a classic design (yeah right!!) and yet everyone is so happy to put 18" wheels on a Cerbera and change the lights and repaint it etc etc

Just accept it, this guy does this for a living, he is building an advert for his company, the quality of the installations looks fantastic from the pics and vid, the guy should be aplauded for his skills

But no, he gets a slagging for the colour scheme (like there arent some awful colour cerberas anyway) and for "over doing it" - well excuse me, but that is the point - you dont make a show car by just adding some new hubcaps and a coat of polish!

Interesting as well how no one has seen it in the flesh or heard the sound, but are still very keen to slag it off - is it because of what he has done or because of where he has announced it? If he had launched it at a Pistonheads event instead of MaxPower, I think a few people here would have a different view......!

Thank the Lord we dont all like the same thing, "Vive Le Difference" (or however you spell it)

Exactly my point. The guy has done things to his car to "improve" it in his eyes. Whether it's your choice or not, it's his car.

I did all sorts of things to my car to improve it. I put decent suspension on it. I put better brakes on it. I put sat nav in it (and yes, it also had TV). I put 18" wheels on it (as a lot of you lot have also done).

Taste is subjective. Does this guy moan to his mates about all of the bog standard cars he sees driving round? Does he say "I can't believe it. They spend 50 grand on a car, but won't spend another few making it into the sort of car that it could be!" Maybe he does.

James

Slappy - you talk a load of sh1t mate! If a bloke in a Cerby pulled up next to you at the lights you'd piss yourself laughing - I KNOW YOU WOULD!!!! What about that bloke who had the Phoenix vinyl on his Cerby and the huge rear spoiler - I don't remember you saying "My, what individual, high-quality modifications that chap has made". More like "What the fcuk has that tw4t done to his Cerby"

You 'modded' your car, but mainly to improve the handling as you were driving it hard especially at trackdays where the standard setup showed weakness. You need the wheels for bigger brakes and the sat-nav 'cos you're too lazy to read a map and like gadgets.

It's unusual for you to be so liberal - have you turned gay?

A lump of modern plastic that has looks, interior and perfomance to rival any car that has ever left any production line in Blackpool, Crewe or Newport Pagnell. A car that houses an engine that is lighter than that of an F1 car and was in fact designed for an F1 car. A car that uses the engine as a major structural member. A car that outperforms cars at 3 times the cost?

Where do these engine myths come from? It is nowhere near as light as an F1 engine, and was never designed for an F1 either - what designed would use a primitive antiquated 2 valve design!? It's not even a structural member, either.

I reckon he missed a few things, like hydraulic suspension and neon underbody lighting.
If you are going to do something do it properly.

Did he build it for Peter Stringfellow?

Bang on Zertec. Jamie T is a wizard at what he does, and I am sure that if any of the self righteous, sanctimonious puritans on here, screwed up their interior in a freak spillage of TVR's own brand cleaner, they would be glad of his help

Meeeeeooowww!!

If TVR had done it I'd have still hated it. The Speed 12 may have brutal performance but it's a styling horror!

The negative responses have been because people think it's ugly - there's nothing to attack the quality of the workmanship. You're so damn keen on people having their own opinions on what's good or bad, why not let them have theirs you hypocrite.

I've got nothing against people who want to modify their cars. But I can't get my head around why people will spend 35k on modding a Citroen Saxo? You could buy a Porker, TVR or a host of 'performance' cars for that and they'd destroy it in the looks/performance stakes.

What's the obsession with 'ICE' anyhow? You make think your cool 'cruising' down the road with your oversize wheels rubbing on the arches with one arm out the window and hardcore-house pumping out at 120db, but the fact is, most onlookers will think you're a twat.

Personally, I'd rather listen to the stereo under the bonnet and use it to attack a set of twisties.

If car 'styling' is your thing then go for your life, but don't attack other people for valuing the original.

Come on Ted. Each to their own. It might not be to our tastes, but the guy has obviously spent a lot of time and money making the car just how he wants it.

When I look at some of the Cerberas aroud on the road, not properly maintained, and their owners bleating on about how they keep on breaking down. That's what makes me

If you look at Christof's car, he's done a lot of Max Power stylee things to it, but because we use our subjective judgement to call it "tasteful", it's ok.

James (donning flameproof suit)

You'd be on thin ICE criticising though wouldn't you....

As a lover of the Cerbera (and particuarly the interior) I find it strange that I'm going to say this........Although I admit I didn't look too closely the quality of the work looks first class - the actual speakers are horrible but the way they are mounted to match the rest of the Cerbie interior is clever as is the rest of the gubbins in the back. The NOS canister looks shite but there you go. The dash etc doesn't necessaryily look worse or better. Wheels are fine and the bolt on exterior bits are not exactly lovely but no worse than even mundane stuff shoved on normal road cars let alone max power ones. The roof again looks brilliantly done.
Colours are a personal thing (and I don't like any of them in this example) and none of the things done are actually necessary but definately a good show case for the guys work.

Well, to throw in my two pence worth, I think it is minging, looks like the set of Lost in Space, but it is his car and he wants to do it, so jumping up and down at keyboards during a break from dull IT contracting is a bit pathetic. Words such as sacriledge are a little silly aren't they.

I reckon that the most important thing is that he is clearly a very talented craftsman. One who has done loads of messing about with the electrics (you with me)If he is as good at the electrics as he is with a swqthe of red leather, he might be the man to have sorted one of TVR's most difficult issues for which we'd all thank him.

Stop throwing the toys out of the pram, think of how bad the aerodynamics will be on that thing

Personally, I don't have a problem with it (although it's not exactly to my taste!).

I don't generally like Max Power style cars, as they're mainly done by Halfords yoof - buying a sh*tbox and spending another 15k making it look individual is fine, but I always wonder why they didn't just spend the extra 15k on a better car to start with. (New Elise or modded Saxo?)

However, with a Cerb I can't really complain that they could have bought a faster car for the money, so by my criteria they get away with it.

It's still too garish for me, mind.

Joolz,

Not sure if this has been covered already - but knowing that you are a bit of a wizard on the AJP engine, what do you think about the chances of this chap getting NOS in the engine working correctly....?

Would be interested to know if it is actually a viable option and whether the engine could cope with it. We hear lots of comments about cerbie engines being highly stressed (and the costs for repairs etc being high) that i have to think that it would be totally un-econmic....

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Paul

The AJP8 needs more valves... what is the chance of a third party producing a block with say 4 valves per cylinder? Should help performance quite abit.

Sorry, just 'cos there have been loads of posts on here with people saying "it's his car, he can do what he wants" etc.. don't go thinking that people can't have their opinions. Political correctness sucks.

You're not going to stop me thinking or saying "what a crock of sh1t". Probably quite loudly too.

nitrous is a very reasonable way to go for more power in short bursts, and let's face it a cerbie even laden with ICE will still be quick enough most of the time, so a dose of nitrous every now and then is just what this car needs to show that bit extra speed. I'd have plumped for a brace of low pressure turbos myself (anyone fancy funding that one???) but the 4valve per cyl head option is probably best, except for the extra clearance issues. i've long said TVR would have been better going 4V/cyl V8 instead of sp6 route, but would they listen?? would they boll*cks..
teehee.

I appreciate most things which display that skill and effort have been employed. Craftmanship should always be encouraged - especially from an young age. If more kids grew up with the dedication of this guy then maybe we would have a world leading motor industry producing the finest engineered cars in the world. Craftmanship is either good or bad - design is a matter of taste.

4 valve has to be a massively expensive headache... and even TVR can't get their Sp6 valvetrain working. Low pressure turbos have to be the way to go, except for the rather high initial compression ratio... how much?

I don't think there would be much in the Turbo and 4 valve costs, factor in the inter cooler and both turbos (I guess it would be a twin turbo setup) then it could get pricey. As you mentioned the compression is already high so not sure the extra cost of low pressure turbos would be worth the benefit.

I wouldn't fancy playing around with the turbo lag on a 500bhp car either.

What are the issues with the valve clearance in a 4 valve per cylinder setup? and can they be overcome?
