Had loads a big Suzuki's but now I've ended up with this, technically a motorbike as it is a 80 town mate and what a beauty bought it for £25 three years ago so far cost me just the mot every year and a battery 18 months ago. Don't get me onto how many miles per gallon verses my Griff.............

It's alright, but it's no C50 biggrin

I think the only bike that could tempt me back on to two wheels would be a mint RG500. Always wanted one back in the day, but never even got to ride one. Which is probably why I'm still here! laugh

I rode a mint Honda 500/4 about 20 years after I had one, it was complete rubbish compared to modern machinery.

I wish I hadn't ridden it as the memory of mine was so sweet.

I know exactly what you mean and it's why I haven't bought another Porsche 928, even though I desperately miss the one I sold over 20 years ago. yes

I had this in my pre TVR days, it had to go to finance my business 10 years ago.

Then I got the bike bug again last year after reading Ghost Rider by Neil Peart - drummer in Rush, he travels 1000s of miles each year on a R1200GS, including between concerts. So I bought this:

Oh yes!

So many bikes, the last one was nearly a Bimota YB4 until I realised I could have a TVR for the same price.
I remember putting a Moriwaki Z720 on the road around 1980. Took it for the MOT and the tester was not impressed by some of the radical features but couldn't find enough reasons to actually fail it......until I started it. I could see his lips move but the chopping gesture across his throat conveyed just what he thought so I cut the motor.
'Feck off and sort that' quoth the tester.

You must have been the envy of your mates! They had a pretty legendary status back in the late 80s. smile

Back then the other RG500 chap was pretty much my only m8 (working away from home) and his Gamma had a Schwantz Pepsi paint job whereas mine was standard, so not so much.

I remember my first IOM TT....one of the lads in the group I was with had a Pepsi rgv500...... He crashed within 10 minutes of being on the islandhehe
Broken collar bone and a wrecked fairing....

In hindsight it was probably a good thing this happened when it did.... I have a feeling he'd have become a statistic, if he'd have had his bike all week

Those Pepsi ones were dangerous biggrin , I watched my m8 bin his too, right in front of me in Ipswich town centre....mine however suffered a different fate, running g out of petrol (and therefore oil) on the A12 @ approx 1.2 leptons.

One trashed engine, luckily I was quick enough on the clutch so the rear didn't lock up.

Sold it later that week for less than scrap value @ 800 quid , should've kept it.

Happy Days

Just read up a bit on the RG500... it had a power to weight ratio of over 600bhp/tonne (dry without rider) eek Through a skinny back tyre eek with a 70Kg rider it was still well over 400bhp/tonne biggrin

I'm thinking that's a scary amount of power on a seriously light bike with not alot of rubber at the back... 400bhp/tonne is rather alot to handle on a four wheel drive car... What the feck must it be like on a motorcycle nuts

F**king Fast but quite usable (rode mine to Assen and back) , although the chassis was barely up to the task.
The thing about it though was the powerband, hit 6500rpm and it would rip your arms off.....you don't get that so much these days on a modern 4 stroke.
Also 2-pot brakes and no engine braking, you had to plan ahead.....

I helped rebuild my friends basketcase 1959 AJS 250 at 15.

On the sunny day when it started, he rode it down the Godstone Rd, (30mph limit) in his dads sleeveless old brown overalls, (still at 15).

He was pulled over by plod for doing 70 mph who then gave him a talk on safety and told him to push it home.

Happy days smile
