Just phoned this morning and got passed to 3 different agents.

First said "ok to join if resident in UK"
Last one said "Not possible, go to the AA!"

Very confusedconfused
This is what I got back from them too, even when using the email address quoted earlier in this thread.

I think the AA complained to ADAC as it effectively gives uk residents AA cover for a lesser price

i'm pretty sure EU law means anyone in Europe is entitled to be treated the same and charged the same for a service, with few exceptions

The fact they use the AA in the UK is enough to put me off. I was an AA member for a quite a while but gave up with them and TVR's. On the few occasions I used them they took hours to arrive and never had a transporter low enough on the first attempt! Switched to the RAC in 2002 and been with them ever since. Think I've only used used the RAC three times, but on telling them on the phone you have a TVR they send a recovery vehicle than can handle very low cars and always arrived in a reasonable time in my case.

I'd love to give ADAC another try but its just too much risk.

Recently booked cover for my Le mans trip with RAC. Was about £30.

Tried calling Adac earlier this morning. They don't offer membership to uk nationals anymore. I did remind her that we are in the eu lll, but appartley she said it's something to do with AA in the uk.

Any help?

I renewed mine in Feb. Try sending an email to beitrag.kreditkarte@adac.de

Just request details on a new ADAC plus membership, and they should reply in English too.

Folks, this may be of interest. I've just joined ADAC.

It may be too late for you, but I have just joined ADAC, commencing 1st Jan 2014 - cost is Eu 79.5 for a year and that is for self and wife.

Superb service, English speaking girl in ADAC (she sounded lovely ) and so very easy to get cover.

Number to call is 0049 89 22 22 22. I will get an English membership pack with all the relevant numbers to call.
Couldn't be easier.

I have read that ADAC will only cover people with a German address - NOT SO. They cover all European countries and their residents. Several folks on here have commented on how impressed they were when they had to make use of the service.

Just rang the number above and they could not have been more helpful. Paid over the phone by credit card and was instantly covered. Paperwork to follow.

Not a problem my address is in the UK with a UK mobile number. Easy as and way cheaper than equivalent cover from the normal AA & RAC etc

I`m glad you posted that as I checked and lo and behold no payment has been taken. I rang them back to find out what is wrong to be told we cannot renew your membership as you live in the UK !!! Try the AA !

It seems that some know the new rules of non UK membership and others dont hence taking my card details the first time probably to find out it cannot be done.

Grrrr mad

Now to get ripped off by a UK company ... did anyone source a cheap alternative ?

ETA - Greenflag looking reasonable at £61

Better with a UK company mate. Not as good value as adac but you've got some security.

I renewed by direct bank transfer in March, no problem.

Cant see that it was refunded and my ADAC card is still giving me discounts at the Service Stations.

Well said. I posted before to say that you are buying an insurance policy which is underwritten in Germany not the UK. So any problems you'd may have problems with going to Court should that ever happen as you'd probably be bound by German law and have to have any dispute dealt with by German Courts. I know this sounds dramatic but if the worst happened and they cocked up with your pride and joy this is something that might become a reality. Also you don't get to see the terms and conditions until after you have paid which is never a good idea.

Well. Interestingly a letter arrived yesterday with my Mrs membership card in from ADAC !! Nothing for me so I checked my credit card again and lo and behold £94 has been taken. I only wanted the single membership plus so should have been 84 Euros. Its all got rather bizarre ! I wonder if my card is on the way in the post ???

We got membership cars seperatley so thats not unusual.

Obviouly something has been lost in translation.

If you are going to use them, seriously, triple check everything.

I have used them before when I was a member a couple of years ago and they recovered me home from Brands Hatch of all places using the AA but this time its all gone a bit weird. I`ll see if my card turns up in the week and if it does happy days as I have proof of payment and a membership number.

Ever worked for the public sector or something that used to be public sector (e.g. BT)?
