Speed12 Replica
Discussion
Anyone else know this existed?:
It's on the Helical Technology stand at the Autosport International show at the NEC this weekend. I spoke to one of the Helical guys (used to work at TVR) and he said they have built it from scratch (made their own moulds) . It has an Aston Martin V12 engine so, if they ever make any to sell it won't be cheap!
Waddaya think??

Correct they're both the same car. It's been in build at Bristol Avenue for a few months and they kept it secret for reasons of their own, but they've built it as a technology demonstrator for their company to show off products and their project engineering capabilities.
Looks a serious bit of kit from the pictures (I've not seen it although I knew snippets about it)and I'm sure it's well built as a lot of the guys from Bristol Avenue who worked on the originals were involved.

YES serious. Reawakens interest in TVR for future new models. Is the Aston engine tuned, or will be, to equal the tune of the original V12? Will it be raced for more publicity? Hope so. Is TVR "so close to greatness" again!
Not being badged as a TVR as much of it as mentioned is new, although I understand it's very much based on teh 12.Thiss photo of the cars spec being displayed at the show suggests it may be based on the Aston engine but again it sounds like there's a lot of new parts including the block. This may be more like the original Speed 12 was intended to be with a stronger CNC block especially as John Ravenscroft was involved. Power sounds like it may be even more......

Thanks David. I was a bit hasty in enthusiastically calling it a TVR. What ever Helical eventually call it. TBR is close enough to TVR. After a few drinks it will be TVVR! t will be associated with those in the know and those not yet in the know, as a close replica copy of the original Speed 12. Strewth ! The power. I wonder at the power to weight ratio.

It's worth pointing out that it isn't one of Graham Abbotts cars. In speed 12 terms, this would be number 3. It was built at helical in warton by paul seymour, tom blount, chris stallard, mike vernon, dave beaty and quickie. The paint was done by s and d. John ravenscroft has been working on the engine with vernon and will be consulting on stage 2 and 3 of the project.
Stage 1 is the aston martin engine with around 600hp as in the orange car. Stage two is a new v12 and stage three includes twin turbos and 1000+ hp. The point is really to use the exhaust and emissions tech from helical and show that low emissions doesn't mean losing cylinders. You can buy one as well if you want. Helical are oem for jlr, aston, ford, ferrari etc.

Is this an exact copy,it looks slightly different to me ?
There are bodywork and mechanical differences but in principle it's based on the Speed12 Cerbera. As noted above by one of teh guys who worked on it it's Phase 1 of a project that will probably evolve into something different altogether.Gassing Station | General TVR Stuff & Gossip | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
