I'm sure some folk too the 'glass half empty' and had the ethos etched into their souls biggrin

TVR still has a strong brand. Ok it has a fair degree of 'negative baggage' too but if you mention TVR most folk haven't forgotten bonkers, fast (and slightly fragile) sports cars.

Also the fact still remains that if you have the right product for the right price at the right time, you can make money.

The Alfa 4C is a swerve-ball from the norm (especially for modern day Alfa) and it's already acquired a healthy number of fans.

TVR need to launch something that is in keeping with the brand's rep but also almost over compensating on the negative issues of chocolate engines and weak management / customer service.

A tough ask but far from impossible.

Small article on today's Autocar mag - TVR moves forward with plans for all-model.

No confirmed details...most interesting bit is that TVR are about to open an R&D centre in the south of England as a prelude to launching an all new model in two to three years time.

Blimey that is going to take quite some financing on the back of no sales. I suppose it depends what they mean by R&D though. Never the less, paying even a small team of top chaps for 3 years, premises and kit won't come in cheap.

They really need to keep up the news flow too, over that period

Are you sure about that , it may have been a strong ish brand in the UK during the 90's but it has lost a lot of credibility and was not really ever an International brand apart from anoraks

They really don't need the recognition of the public-at-large of Ferrari, Porsche and Aston for the couple of hundred of cars they might be able to build annually... I'd say that would work counterproductive. People are drawn to TVR because it's not Porsche, Ferrari or Aston, it's a bit of a cult and needs to remain so to be a credible grunge alternative.

I'm from the continent and I'd say the recognition of TVR among the sort of people that matter and who might have the sense of humour to actually buy one, is nothing short of fantastic... simply mention you have a TVR and you get an instant +10,000 'man points' IYKWIM.

I see TVR as the sort of brand that's more in line with things like Magnus 'Urban Outlaw' Walker than any actual car manufacturer... you need the likes of Liam Howlett (back) in a TVR, not Jay-Z, Justin Bieber or someone off the X-Factor. wink

Hope it is a new centre and not who I think it is.

Someone who have been stated by various people as providing some R&D services for the new TVR and have
not been well known for completing their past R&D projects successfully shall we say.

No names here though. If you know who I mean, you will know who I mean.

But let's just say they would not be my first choice for R&D projects - and I do quite a few.

Different article I think but like I say still doesn't confirm any details - see attached (hopefully not an issue with copyright since all Haymarket?...if so assume the mods will remove as appropriate!).

I'd suggest it's a brand new location with a small team of their own staff focussed on developing the new car.

My personal view is that working in association with any of the 'old guard' would be a mistake.

As would be trying to build a £50k car with a £20k engine, would,nt leave much in the pot for other components

Well of course the likes of Ferrari have gotten away with giving you an engine and throwing the rest in for free for a few decades before Fiat and Signore De Montezemolo... hehe
