With the current thread of public perception of tvr's I hav to go and add my pennies worth today.
Just as i pulled into the Uxbridge car show I broke down. The kind marshall pushed me aside and on to the grass.only cause i was blocking everybody from getting in.The clutch peddle has gone all limp(oooooh err)and the cable was still connected so the cylinder had stuck in.Well the hour waiting for the rac was hell people asking me to come on in or let us listen to the engine ect,When I explained all but one laughed and said it is a tvr what do you expect. With the rac there comments just came flooding in.
We managed to get the car going as the rac guy has a cobra and had sympathy for me.
Like to hear of any other shit places to break down.

Suppose i'l have to get used to it

Years ago, I had a Skoda. Before you fall about the place, it was a cheap alternative to riding my Suzuki Katana in all weathers, OK? Plus my daughter was only young and my mother disapproved... look, this is irrelevant..... no it's not, irrelevant is a big grey thing with floppy lugs and a hosepipe up front.... anyway, the bike needed some new brake pads and the local dealers were more expensive than the one 12 miles away. So off I went in the Skoda, honked (ahem) down the A66 to Darlington. Came to a roundabout, and some arrogant b*****d in a Volvo tried to carve me up. So I nailed (relatively speaking) it, and tried to get round the outside of him. Alas I got the rear wheels into some gravel, and in true rear-engined-swing-arm fashion, the tail broke free and bounced off the kerb.
The car came round rather faster in the opposite direction, narrowly missed the Volvo and exited the roundabout backwards, in the general direction of a lamp-post. I missed it, but the trailing arm and driveshaft were bent, so the car wouldn't go anywhere. At this juncture, a nice man on a white motorcycle appeared and said 'Ello ello ello, what's all this then?'
Upshot was, it cost me 50 quid to get the car towed home, 25 to fix it... and I had to go to the local bike shop and pay the higher price for the pads so I could get to the scrappy to find bits for the Skoda!

Hey ho.

I guarantee that you'd have had plenty of sympathy from us on the TVR stand - or did you visit and I missed you?

I saw your car (Goldish in colour?) as I left the show around 1PM, I had no idea you'd broken down, I though it was a marshalls car being where it was.

Sorry to hear this, but don't let it put you off owning one.

Before I got mine I used to think they were fairly unreliable as I used to see them with the bonnets up a lot - Now I own one, I know from experience that most bonnets are up as the owners try to cool the car down after a blat.

Keep your chin up.

Dave.

The day I was (trying) to sell my 350i....

It had been running fine but decided it obviously didn't want to go to a new home, so as soon as I took the prospective purchaser for a spin it started coughing and farting! Through mumbled apologies I headed back home. I pulled over to the side of the road as we were struggling to get above 20mph. Just as I pulled over, a friendly cabbie slowed up and shouted "did you know you've got flames coming out of your exhaust?!!".

The prospective purchaser nearlly pee-ed himself!

Managed to get the car home and the guy said he'd come and have a look once it was sorted. One new dissy cap later, and he was as good as his word - and he bought it!!!

Really embarrased...just filled up the Griff with a tank full of Shell Optimax (really good stuff!) and couldn't start the car. The battery was absolutely dead (turned out to be a shorted battery plate inside)...guess what? I got a jump start from a brilliant bunch of guys in an old VW camper van!!!!
