Hi,

I have been chatting to Dave, the TVR alarm specialist with a view to getting the remote boot release mod done to my '98 Chim. At the moment he does not have anything booked in the area so I am gauging interest to see if it would be possible to get him down here for a few days to work on several cars.

Anybody who may be interested in either the remote bootlid or almost any other alarm related issue, please stick your name down and hopefully something can be arranged thumbup

No, this is the proper job, linked to the alarm and with a button on the remote.

I'd certainly be interested if you count Bristol as the south west biggrin

I've got the original meta alarm and would like a second fob and the remote boot release would be handy. In a few miles outside Exeter.
Any ideas on £?

No real ideas about cost for other stuff just yet but I was quoted a little under £200 for the boot mod, fitted.

Just trying to gauge interest with the idea of arranging something fairly soon.

Could be interested, where in the west country? Dave who? and can he fit a complete new alarm system as my aftermarket one got ripped out during a recent chassis restoration.

I just had my original Meta alarm system replaced by Carl Baker (the other TVR alarm specialist). The cost isn't cheap at £650, but for that you get the new Meta system, integrated key and fob, remote boot release, and the 'hot-start' mod. Given the labour involved (he started on my car at about 9am, finished at 20:30) I think it was pretty good value for money.

All in all, I was very happy with the job and Carl is a friendly and knowledgeable guy. He did mention that the original Meta systems were only designed to last around nine years and he's increasingly seeing more issues with the older cars (Griff/Chim).

I am in Burnham on Sea, but have interest from Bristol and Exeter. When I spoke to him he said that if enough interest was gained then he would come down for a few days and do a few cars in various locations. May even go to the TVRS SW open day in Wellington.

He can do a full system, I believe that takes around a day.

Yes Alex, that's the fella smile

OK, we have 6 potentials that I can talk to Dave about, he will hopefully say that it's enough to warrant a trip to see us.

Me - Boot release and alarm checkover
mach2 - Boot release
shake n bake - Additional remote and boot release
rob200 - Boot release
Bluebottle - Full alarm
sgrimshaw - Boot release??

I will chuck him an email and see what can be arranged.

I have fitted that very same boot release to my Griff. Its a great improvement as you don't have to put the keys into the ignition to open the boot. Simply click the fob and you are in. Much easier. I fitted it (with help from my friend), but its a simple job provided you havde a soldering iron (to get good connections) and some heat shrink sleeving.

I'd really recommend it.

Edit to say that tech support from Dave via the phone is exceptional. Great guy.

Well that was quick. I've already heard back from Dave, he seems to think that we have sufficient interest for a trip down here. He is working on prices etc. as we speak and I will keep this thread updated.

In the meantime, anyone else who is interested please comment on here.

I only want the magnetic boot release and that's something I've asked Big Col to do at TVRSSW .... once I can get the kit from David Beer (who is out of stock ATM)

Does Dave sell the magnetic release kits ?

I'd be interested in the full alarm (and getting my bloody doors to unlock whilst he is at it).

Right then folks, we have an update.

Dave has agreed to come down our way and has put together a package that I hope will make everyone happy.

Alarm service, inc. batteries - £20
Boot release - £215
Full alarm, inc. boot release and Opel key conversion - £523

If this suits then please let me know, the date is looking like the week commencing 11th August, location yet to be decided but I have offered the use of my place in Burnham on Sea if that would work for people?

Nick
