Have to agree it is a funny old market out there for Sag's ATM.

When I was looking towards the end of last year I saw several and made three offers before I finally settled on another one. All three were held by dealers on an SOR basis and two of those are still for sale. In fact one dealer told me he thought all of the Sag's for sale via dealers at the time were being held on an SOR basis.

In all cases the dealers went back to the sellers but they all came back saying they didn't actually drive the cars now and were hanging on until they got the asking price as they didn't need the money.
That's the feed back I am getting, going to see the one at racing green tomorrow, if I cant have a second hand one I might as well try and buy a new one.....

I don't think this thread is about Sag prices, judging by the original post.
There are plenty of other threads that discuss the prices of Sags, but this seems to be more about the unwillingness of owners to sell or move on prices. Not directly the prices themselves.

Whilst i agree whole heartedly that anything is "only worth what someone is willing to pay", the same can be said that if no-one is willing to sell at that price then it is worth more.
i.e. me being willing to only pay £10 for a Bugatti Veyron does not make it worth £10. It is a combination of what the seller is willing to part with the car for and my willingness to part with my cash

If you're opinion "isn't going to change" then why are you on a forum? the whole point of a forum is to exchange ideas and opinions and to change them accordingly.
Can you honestly tell me that you have never read or seen anything that has changed your mind? If that is the case then (once again) why are you here?
Well said, the problem I have is begin brought up in the traveling society (yes )
I am always looking for a bit of money off and having a deal is part of the fun of wheeling and dealing.......
Edit to say: many thanks for the offers to buy my Tuscan but it is not for sale, sorry if I confused some people but I would love a Saggy as well as the Tuscan, you cant have enough toys.

I was a genuine offer. Please don't insult me or my car. I deserve an apology.

Not wanting to hijack this thread but your comment got me thinking - I wonder if us TVR nutters with more than one are keeping the market so buoyant?

I must agree with you James, the ones I looked at were not top notch cars, I felt they all needed around £1500-£2000 grand spend on them hence my offer,s
So would they not have carried out the work as part of a full price deal, costs them a lot less to do the work.
Amazing that there was not that amount of wiggle room in what from your later posts would be a cash deal.
No real logic in the dealer pricing or the current owners expectations.

Ah - that would explain it then. I was wondering why you were planning on paying more money to downgrade. hehe

I am amazed how many times people see someone being smart with money as an indication that they don't have enough of it - how do people think they got it in the first place.

Good luck with your search.

I think you both need to read my post again but slowly - I asked the question about money as it does not seem logical as to why a deal cannot be made when you are talking about bridging a gap of less than 3%.

I also pointed out a couple of other possible reasons to try and understand the situation but those seems to have got ignored.

Good luck with the search but if your goal is not buy unless you have atleast 3% knocked off then you might be in for a long wait. Like I said in my previous mail, the way Sag prices are going up you will get your money back in a year and its better off in a Sag than in a bank!

There seems to be a nice varied choice at the moment - that might not always be the case

If you want to apply some logic here the first question you should ask yourself is why these sought after cars are still for sale a year later? Any sought after car that is still for sale a year later is either priced too high or has something wrong with it.

Maybe the sellers are basing their prices on mint cars that have actually sold, but their cars are not up to that standard (try telling someone their car is not a great example!). The garages that have them sitting there on SOR have nothing to lose, a bit of free eye candy.

Not knocking Sags in any way, lovely cars etc etc but there has to be an answer here.
