We sat in the restaurant by the ferry eating calzone and drinking italian beer not so long ago! Garda is absolutely stunning and there is a very nice road behind limone with a great cafe at the top, if griffithy's around he might be able to point you in the right direction. If you get the chance drive up the far side of stelvio as it is much more fun than the near side (east side i think).

We are crossing the stelvio to get to Davos, so not sure what side that is. I will be following the satnavwongthecorrupter said:
weather is looking good for stelvio, I got to be honest i'm not that fussed about driving it. I prefer fast roads with long sweeping bends.
Probably correct, any of the passes is an experience, but there are better roads...like for instance the Black Forrest south of Karlsruhe, as you say sweeping roads, slightly ondulated and thus you can anticipate on what comes next, so, faster !Stelvio sucks, tvr owners do not apply, first gear around most bends going up. The fluela pass is much better. I cant see the point in a road you cannot drive fast on. To fussy for a tvr with its not to good turning circle. It just stressed me out to be honest, better on the way down though. To be fair i knew it wouldn't be for me and should of took another route. Crap

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsmAq43Y614We did the Stelvio in both directions on different days plus the Gavia and the Passo de Pennes and loved them all its not just about speed but the achievement however there was plenty of speed its a case of planning your route to avoid the heavy traffic but I would do them all again this was coming down the Passo de Pennes great fun

I Think those Busses in the Tunnel must be a feature as we had them as well but going in the other direction the Stelvio is not just about speed but about the challenge for man and machine I know that the older cars like mine with carbs its a challenge as the air gets thinner and some older cars the plugs just soot up as you get higher and higher and engine temperature rises as well should you find yourself stuck behind a Coach that's impossible to pass better to pull in an wait for a gap in traffic so you can keep the air flow through the Rad.We stopped and adjusted the fuel on the 38dg part way up but we got there and it was a real sense of achievement for both the Old Boy (driver) and the Old Girl (3000s) would do it all again in a flash.
