Sticky Tyres - Dunlop DZ03Gs - Anyone run them on the road?

Hi all,

I should be getting my Chim back on the road tomorrow and it's got quite a ridiculous amount of power with its new engine and remapped supercharged goodness. Currently I have a set of very worn, hard, generally knackered R888s which definitely need changing if I'm to keep it out of a hedge.

I was thinking of another set of R888s as they've been fairly good to me over the years, but I have recently heard very good things about the Dunlop DZ03G's - I have two questions - has anyone tried these on the road, and where might I find the best price on a set? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

Edit: My research so far has turned up another contender of Yokohama AD08Rs - these sound like they might be a bit better suited?

I haven't used the 03 but used to use the 02 and they were very good in the dry, but not good in the wet, not unexpected.

I've used both, on the track there is little between them, maybe marginally more grip with the Dunlops and the Toyos being a little more forgiving on the limit.
On the road there is again very little to choose between them, both great in the dry, good in damp and worrying in standing water but you know that anyway. I found the Dunlops whined a bit on the road but other than that they are both as good as each other. I personally prefer the Toyos but wouldn't have a problem using the DZ03Gs again.

I would have gone AD08Rs for sure if I hadn't got a full set of R1Rs for the Tamora they had a good write up and the majority of people who use them like them as u'll be aware they like all TDT's and will give u a few erm....focusing moments in the wet;)


Also they are far less expensive than the Dunlops for not much difference regarding road performance where I would imagine they spend most of the time.

I run R1Rs for the road and they are superb.

As said, good price and excellent all round grip.

In fact wet grip was superb before I ragged them on a few TDs.

Now I keep a set of wheels with Tripple 8s for TDs and the R1Rs for the road.

R1R are being phased out, so you'll need to be quick. I run the Dunlop on the rear of my M3 and have been really happy with them. I was told that some sizes will no longer be available though.

I am presently addicted to Federal 595 RS-Rs. Half the price of the pure track stuff, great on both road and track. I have a set of 888s, but will be doing a Cadwell track day a week on Monday on the 595s as they give me more confidence.

No idea. My local Toyo dealer mentioned it last week when I was there. I've yet to try their wet weather performance but they've been fine in the dry.

They are fantastic in the wet....currently what is on my car

or you could try Kumho V70A, not as good in the wet as the R1R, but in the dry great..... check out Howard Banard hill climbing with them at present

have them on the chim and great tyres. there is almost no tire for that price that will do the job properly.
quite soft sidewall but with the right pressure they are superb. dont see any reason to pay the double amount
for the toyos or the advans. of course for road or track usage in the dry superb but be carefull in the wet. have driven them with light foot on the pedal twice in the rain where i could not avoid it.

I was taking to the guys at EARs Motorsport in. Macclesfield about the Fed 595's and he was saying that they are a pretty decent tyre but can't get a hold of them and the tyre rep has been promising them for months but haven't materialised.


The Kumho A70 (700) tyre I found them really good on my Westield V8 but that car was 400 kg lighter than my heavy Tamora. I think once the R1R' rears on mine are done next year I'll look at the AD08Rs and give them a try unless there's a new kid on the block.

As mentioned the R1Rs are finished now I was lucky to get mine at the price I did , the following week they were £35 a side more expensive .they are out there but it's getting harder to source them. The 255 rears came from Ze fazherland and the fronts from EARs in Macclesfield

Just back from trying the R1R in the heavy rain we are currently enjoying here in Cornwall. Have to say I was pretty impressed and can see why folk like them so much. Just need to find a pair in 245/40r17 now though.

That's why I switched to R1R as the weather over the last few years has been crap, and things like 888 & V70A are just no fun in the wet....... with the R1R felt nice n safe even in heavy rain

So everyone I've spoken to in the tyre game now has said AD08R without question, DZ03Gs if I'm only ever going to drive in the dry. So looked for some AD08Rs and they're out of stock until they start up production again next spring. bks! So I'm just going to stick on some normal road tyres for Autumn/Winter and will get some sticky stuff in the spring I think
