The alarm that came with my Chimaera isn't working properly. Siren doesn't work and immobiliser doesn't cancel with the fob either.

Rather than throw money and time at tracing the problems, I think I'd just rather get a new one.

So, I'm looking for one up to £200. 2 way would be nice, but not essential. Just reliable and has good feedback. Also something that is relatively easy to instal as I'll be doing it myself. I was looking at a Viper alarm as mentioned in another thread in the Chim forum, but after seeing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Sg2l9nt_-Q on youtube, I'm having second thoughts..

Any recommendations or pointers are appreciated.

Thanks

Another Meta from the ex-Meta engineer bloke based in Watford. If the looms OK then just replace the boxes at the end of it or get him to diagnose the fault with yours.

Somebody will be along soon who knows who I mean - I think he is called David Fairclough but can't remember the company name it was two letters - Solutions

What Shep101 says, but I think CentralTVR actually have new old stock Meta alarms for sale, so you should be able to replace like with (working) like?

Its worth having the immobiliser replaced along with the alarm , although you wont get that for £200. Just had my old Meta replaced with a new Meta, complete alarm and immobiliser replacement plus remote boot opening from the integrated keyfob. It also allows me to use the fob to disable the internal sensors when parked with the roof off.

I dont have the invoice in front of me but I think it was about £500 ish.

The original Meta alarm system is now 20 years old and wasn't integrated into the loom well in the first place (the reason that they fail so often), they're probably electronically equivalent to the £40 alarms you can buy from places like Halfords now. If you could buy both boxes and fobs for under half the price of a new alarm it would be worth it for the ease of installation, but to fork out even a couple hundred quid for them is a waste of money.

If you're capable of fitting it yourself I can't think of any reason not to buy a more up to date alarm (I only suggested the Viper one because it's the one I'd fit, although I wouldn't base an opinion on a youtube channel that averages only a few hundred views per video), just rewire the new immobiliser circuit after the relays rather than using the original position so that it doesn't melt like the meta ones do. There are loads of alarms to chose from, all of them cheaper than buying a replacement meta system for £300.. http://abacuscaralarms.co.uk/alarmshop/index.php?a...
