Hi all.
I have an enquiry for my T350, which I have advertised.
Can someone give a clue about the re-registering process in the UK? I exported the car in 2011 and had it registered in Germany. I have all the paperwork present, incl. a scan of the old V5c. The original was retained by the German authorities.
So is it just a new MOT and call at the DVLA, or what else is involved?

Thanks,
Björn.

Hi Björn,

In essence the new owner applies for and completes a from the HMRC NOVA (re any VAT payable, which there is not); and applies for an import pack from the DVLA which gives him the application form he needs. He has to pay £25 registration fee and the road tax and it takes DVLA 5-30 days to do the paperwork.

The tricky part in your case, would be getting the car from Germany to UK. You deliver it, do the MOT, take the number plates off and fly home and de-register it there. Or he drives it on your plates back, does the MOT, then send the plates/German documents back and you de-register; but there are the usual insurance implications doing this it way. He could try getting insurance on the old UK number and driving it back on those (bit iffy). Or the car is trailered back.

Once the application form is submitted, the new owner will probably have to submit the vehicle for an ID inspection to his local VOSA. As the car has no plates at this point, that means trailer. The new owner could have potential insurance hassle whilst the paperwork is being done (ie the car is not insured), but hopefully his insurance company will be amenable.

Rgds,
James

Things have more than likely changed but around 20 years ago I bought, from here in the UK an American import MGB, after restoration first thing I had to do was get an MOT. with no number plates yet issued the MOT was issued on the chassis number. Just as you can drive a car with no MOT direct to and from an MOT station I was allowed to take it with no plates (took some explaining to the MOT guys)!

Hi Phillpot - You'd do the MOT on the way home from Dover, either Björn driving or on the trailer. Alternatively, provided you have insurance, the Police would probably let you drive it to the local MOT station. But the VOSA could be a 50-100 mile round trip and you certainly couldn't drive it in through Dover and then home without plates.
