Just to help you I was suggesting statistics were made up, I then threw a statistic in myself. See what I did there? Nope you obviously didn't you were too keen to trot out an extremely boring made up story.
LOL - here: try this

Excellent stat that mate, unfortunately 93% of statistics are made up hehe I'll take heat for this but an M5 would put paid to a Chim 95% of the time wink
Herin lies the problem with made up stats, the real number is 100% - ah but perhaps you were allowing for the 5% of people who really believe their Chim is a fast car wink . You do realise that 105% of TVR owners believe that they are driving gods - myself included wink

Interesting comparison. Which M5 was it?

I had an E39 M5

It would have been faster than my 400 on the straights I reckon there wouldn't be much in it round the bends due to the difference in size and the M5 not getting the power down quite so well (compared to my 400 anyway).

Bring dual carriageways into it and obviously the M5 would be faster but speeds would be stupid by then.

I had a nice drive out with a friend in a 964 yesterday and we agreed that they are both excellent cars for fast round driving. Just the right amount of power and the right size for A & B road.

The older M5's are roughly equivalent to a Chim , but I was looking at the stats for the F10 M5 which is a big leap in performance and would definitely leave any Chim behind with a 0-60 of 3.7. Its surprising how fast these big barges can be chucked around with the aid of computers. I have a Jag XJR as a daily driver and I can just launch it into corners at silly speeds and it just sorts itself out. Of course its no fun to drive as it takes no skill to drive fast , the TVR beats it hands down every time for fun even if the 0-60 is the about the same as the Jag !

Whats amazing is the F10 M5 is 287bhp/tonne....it weighs 1945kg so to crack 4 seconds to 60 its must have some carlos fandangos electronic wizardry going on in that gearbox/drive train.

To be fair, a lot of people don't know much about TVRs anymore and just want to have a closer look. I notice it on motorways where a car seems to be coming past and then just hovers on your blind-spot. I don't mind it for a while but then a dab of brakes and they are past whether they want to be or not.

Agree with this. People gawp at it on the motorway and very often kids have their faces pressed to the window having a look. Daddy probably said, 'Look, there's a TVR. They're really fast.' The word "fast" is important.

It ain't just when driving the TVR. There is a culture these days of having to be in front. You could be doing 120mph and still have some tt wanting to overtake or push you out of the way. Will take heat on this no doubt, but 65% of the time its an idiot in an Audi.
Haha, just reading through this and had to laugh... Over the weekend some tool in a blacked out Audi RS5 wanted to test his machine against my T350C (mostly standard except for lightened flywheel and sports exhaust) by getting too close, dropped to 3rd gear doing about 100KPH (i'm based in New Zealand) and floored it, lost sight of him in my rear view mirror...

I can understand our cars are even rarer down under though to be fair...

Don't stand up for an Audi driver, they are mostly complete cocks.

I do find that people tailgate me more when I'm in the Tivs than the eurobox. Maybe a 'map 3' is required.

Sunday, coming back on the M62 from Event City, Manchester towards Leeds. Just gone up the big hill (4 lanes) and on to Saddleworth moor (3 lanes) and quite busy. She says there's a grey car coming fast behind us. He swoops to the inside lane and undertakes doing around 90 mph, then into the middle, passes some of the cars in the outer lane and moves in front of them. He now weaves between all 3 lanes, inside to middle to outer and back, still travelling at speed and missing cars by tiny amounts. Watched him do this until he disappeared from sight driving like a true Audi RS4 driver. It was a 57 plate driven by a young male. Nuff said. (we were not in the Cerb btw - clue? she was driving hehe)

I must admit, people who tailgate no longer bother me - although on the whole, when out in the Tam, the experience is more positive than negative from most other drivers.

Always a few exceptions - I picked my step son up from work Sunday, and was tailgated by a young man in a BMW 2 litre diesel, on a road well known for fatal accidents. I just let him overtake, I have nothing to prove at the age of 47, I just want to enjoy my car, and if that means allowing idiots to overtake, that's great - I bought the car for fun on the twisties and the occasional track day, not a point and squirt hot rod. I have spent too much on my car to chance it with my limited talent, more so when trying to prove points to idiots.

I channel my testosterone fuelled urges into weight training - much more productive.. hehe

And this is the broader point along with all the false sense of ability given by a car that compliments a driver rather than punish. Its not just tailgating, but generally aggressive last minute manoeuvres, because the car (and lets say Audi - who seem to fit the type) lets the idiot driving think its safe when it just isn't. It used to be mirror signal manoeuvre. Now it seems largely common practice to signal and manoeuvre with no mirror - or certainly manoeuvre with absolutely no regard for the lack of gap afforded to the other driver - because the idiot doing it thinks its fine and dandy to drive like they do and aggressively pull-out, brake and accelerate with no regard for safety. Certainly this is standard M25 behaviour these days

If a nice car is in front of me I often slot in behind and keep up at reasonable speeds, far better than following a Yodel van or similar.

^^^^ This,
[oh, and Audi drivers are definately the worst users on the road after cyclists and mothers in 4x4's].
