Indeed, I suspect that he was parked up when police arrived and was done for drunk in charge instead of driving. (Or there was sympathy for his car choice? wink )

A rough calculation tells me that at 5mph it will take 82 seconds to cover 200 yards. That's some serious BiB response time smile

Not condoning drink driving at all but I do despise the "snitch culture" that's developed in this country.
Snitch on your neighbours. Snitch on your friends. Snitch on everyone. Divide and conquer.

In cases like this, the motivation behind the snitching is seldom that the snitcher is worried about a drink driver killing someone. The motivation is that they revel in bringing doom and misfortune onto other people. I utterly despise it.

When I was at school you got the sh*t kicked out of you for telling tales.

Sorry but that's a twisted way of looking at things. It's the morons that put the lives of me, my wife and my kids in very real danger by getting behind the wheel when not even in the state required to avoid p1ssing their pants that need to have the sh*t kicked out of them. Good for those that informed the police - they may well have saved the life of someone I care about.

Yeah, I remember school, wrong clothes got the st kicked out of you as well. Not adding anything to this saying that. The bloke was three times over the limit.

The thing about being way over the drink / drive limit is that it impairs ALL judgement. It is tempting to think "I'll be OK to just move it a bit."

Insurance will be nigh on impossible on that car for years to come (if he declares the conviction of course).

Kids run out into roads all the time - fact.
A drunk driver's ability to drive a car is impaired - fact.
This impairment can kill people - fact.

Please point out the implausibility in this.

It sound to me "smartypants..." that you feel that there are situations where it is acceptable that inebriated people should be allowed to drive very high powered sports cars on public roads.

Settle down chap. I think you might be taking things a little too seriously...

The court heard that he had originally meant to drive to his work car park 200 yards away, but decide to make the journey home in the 240 horsepower car.

A member of the public saw Whelan crawling along in the sports car - which can do zero to sixty in less than five seconds - down a quiet country road in August last year.

When he was stopped by police he gave a reading of 109 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Whelan was told to attend a drink driving rehabilitation course and banned from the roads for six months. He was fined £660, told to pay £85 costs and a £65 victim surcharge.

Poor parenting/supervision, plus I'll guarantee you that there aren't many children playing unsupervised near busy roads anymore. They'll either be supervised by parents or indoors connected to the internet/games machine.

Far too easay to jump on kneejerk reactions driven by poor reporting, such as stories in the DM.

Child mortality rates in the UK. Want to get heated about something, how about the fact the UK has the worse rate of child deaths in europe and that isn't vehicle related

I undertook some trials in the simulator for a certain testing facility, which involved drinking and measuring driving ability. Interestingly at low levels of alcohol some drivers abilities were enhanced (possibly they were taking more care?) whilst others were unaffected. As the alcohol levels increased, all drivers showed their reaction times and decision making to be impared, but it was interesting to see at what level this was. Some drivers this was far above the current limit.

So it's not a simple black and white in reality, but in the eyes of the law it is and quite rightly there needs to be a set point. One of the outcomes of the tests was that the majority of the drivers believed the current levels were about right.

However the Chimera driver deserves everything coming to him. He knew he'd been drinking and decided to drive home (if you read proper journalistic reporting)

There really are some fkwits on this site.

It's ok cause he is only going down the road?!? Idiots.

It's totally unacceptable no matter how far you're travelling. As for snitching, I have contact the police which assisted in the arrest of a drunk driver at a pub I was at whilst away for a few days, tell me please why is this wrong? I certainly didn't loose any sleep over it, I would have if I had read that he had killed someone on his journey home.

Seriously, what is wrong with you people?!?!

Would you feel the same if the bloke had been on private property, 200 yards to get the car from the driveway into the garage at a 5mph crawl in 1st gear, his own children playing football on the grass in the garden?

Drunk drivers should be kept off the road. End of.
