Just finished reading the very informative write up by a Porsche owner about his newly aquired 106k mile Cat D Chimaera and went to respond to a question raised. By the time I had logged in and returned to the page the topic had been closed by a mod. I guess some PH rules were breeched in the content.

However, the new owner (porshefreak?) asked if there was a way of checking out previous owners. Yes there is, DVLA has all the answers and this should do the trick: https://www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla

I did it for my Tiv when I bought it in April 2012 and now have details of all the previous registered keepers, from new. This service used to be free but from memory there's a small charge involved now. Good service though. smile

Thank you very much for this chap. Will give it a whirl and see what it turns up.

Not entirely sure why the thread was deleted, but I'll put a new owner post with some pics etc tomorrow. Obviously I will omit any details of where I purchased the car, despite being thoroughly satisfied.

TBH I was surprised the thread lasted as long as it did.

I think the DVLA information is meant for owners and not sure if it extends to prospective owners, I assume there isn't a V5 with the car, or any indication of teh last owner?

I should have added that you need to prove that you are the registered keeper first. Or at least, if you request information on a specific car then DVLA can check you out and I'm sure they won't hand this over if their records don't tie up.

Assume you will receive some sort of V5 but I have no idea how the Cat D thing works.

Like V8 GRF, I'm surprised the thread ran for so long. Note my previous post about all the 'scrappers' disappearing off the classifieds too. Interesting.

Like it or not NE TVR Breakers have a business because they are the ones who are prepared to pay more for parts cars and salvage. They also are the reason that most people will continue to enjoy TVR's.
There used to be lots of scrapyards and salvage dealers. Regrettably most people driving today who have only held there licences for 10 - 15 years won't understand the concept of going to said places to buy spares or even the odd viable car..

Its the purest form of re-cycling, Something that was really green without needing to be an electric powered hybrid bought in a sterile environment??

Everyone should remember that before the cars being sold by such places were crashed, They were being driven around by someone who thought they were in great nick.
The reality is that most TVR's with a rover engine are now at that point where they need the body taken off

I hope you will find hours of happiness with your project. They are the last of the true fettlers vehicles.

(No relation to any TVR breaker etc)
