That said my cars are cars, not garage Queens. Probably only clean the 911 once every couple of months if that. What's the point, I drive it hard every day, only going to get brake dust everywhere every 5 seconds.

Tar ownership sounds a lot like rolex ownership. Don't ever wear it, you could scratch it, best keep it in the box and only wear it for special occasions.

Or, wear it every day, enjoy it for what it is, then get it polished every year, as if by magic, all the scratches are gone.

I'll take all of your car wash advice on board though. Sarky as it all was.

Car washes scratch cars and cause swirl marks.

Thought everyone knew this.

Just get the local wash boys on the job and ask them to use a new sponge or mitt.

For the best results do it yourself, unless you are a spacker.

I was very lucky spacker. Had a full sign off bar the oil sender. New outriggers, and brand new toyos all round. If only I could get the poxy steering wheel off.

I let the kosavans wash mine when I'm feeling lazy, just tell them not to aim the jetwash at the roof. Mind you my local kosovans are well known for doing a proper job, no jewelry or jeans, clean water, sponges and rags. They don't even use that crappy tyre dressing stuff unless you ask for it.

The sign of a very lazy owner :-( car washes are for lazy housewives. There's millions of car hand washes about....

Depends how you value your time I suppose. I'd rather not tie up hours of my weekends cleaning the car over and over again, and instead just have it cleaned and every year and a have have the paintwork detailed.

I'll bet my 911 has far less scratches and swirl marks than most cars on here as I had the paint detailed in Jan for £300.
So why are you asking then? Just put it through.

You may have more luck grabbing one from Machine Mart?

Don't punch yourself in the face with the steering wheel doing that! I've, erm, heard it hurts if you do.

Monkeylegend, some people on here wouldn't put a convertible through a car wash full stop. I know that with a 911 it's 100% not a problem, so thought I'd ask if it's the same with a tvr. The answer was no. No harm done. Now I know the answer.

Looneytunes, did it hurt as much as everyone else on the Internet says it does!

Phil, been sat in it like a mad man rocking back and forth with all I have. Even took the trusty claw hammer to it! She's not having any of it.

Puller type thing it is tomorrow then.

That's why you loosen but don't remove the nut (the second time) wink

Enough that when the quick release boss on one of my other toys siezed, and it became obvious that I couldn't get a puller on it and would have to give it a proper tug from inside the car, the next thing I reached for was a full face helmet! boxedin

ETA: and any of your "mates" who were helping will also still "help you to remember" after 20 odd years! bds.

I wouldn't put any car through an automatic car wash. Just wash it with a Brillo pad for the same effect.
WRONG..... we have a wash near us that is specific for convertables.... no brushes, just jet washes wink
