New TVR Parts launched...
Discussion
Supply and demand, time will tell.
I will wait and see what happens but the parts market for our cars is probably not so profitable when competition exists, most of the original parts have been stored somewhere for ages, hence a certain suppliers parts have a rusty patina, and a new part requires investment to manufacture, consider the small runs and slow sales as well.
Does anyone else remember Dom posting something like "go on then stick a BMW V8 in it".... can't find it but a year or so ago I suspected a lack of harmony which is sad as he has certainly helped to maintain values in cars with his calming words about not being scared of the SP6 and no nonsense engineering approach. Consider our cars being worth half what they are, esp. the SP6 engine cars, we wouldn't care about heritage so much and the future value of the original parts business would be challenged surely. Anyway business is just about the bottom line and heroes just get remembered. The lack of depreciation must bolster investor confidence and positively persuade purchasers.
One thing I am waiting for is the new TVR and to see who the target market is and of course who it will actually be buying them. The service network is being warmed up.

Good to hear
+2I have just bought Dom's clutch, lightweight flywheel and master cylinder package - which he'll be having back soon when it's all fitted when I have my 4.3 upgrade - which will be sooner rather than later, I hope..

Just bought a front badge for the Tam from the new parts website, about £21 plus VAT plus £7 for the usual delivery rip off, but then received an email informing me there was a £6 refund on the delivery due to the low cost of the item purchased......pleasantly surprised!
Just need Dom to offer interest free credit on the 4.3 and I'll be with you Chris

I have noticed they have a new alternator for roughly half the cost of other suppliers, but it doesn't state what make it is, or if it's genuine OEM:

I might try to order steering wheel button stickers for the Cerbera on this basis. I've been putting it off all year because I won't pay £7 postage for a sodding set of stickers!Just need Dom to offer interest free credit on the 4.3 and I'll be with you Chris

The last time I ordered engine bay stickers from RG, they came packed in an A5 envelope with a piece of card to keep them from being damaged.Postage/handling was appropriate for an envelope.
All achieved by picking up the phone and speaking to the nice man.
We sometimes forget that real people are at the other end of that button and mouse click.
I am sure the only thing I have ever bought for the TVR with a mouse click; was engine oil.
It's far too personal for me.
I'm sorry but competition is a good thing. It's misguided to think a single supplier approach brings a competitive price, why would it? There's no incentive to reduce prices or try to be competitive with no competition. If you have no competition you dictate prices. Tvr parts prices are out of alignment with other parts, some of which is based on economies of scale and some is purely down to owners paying the prices without questioning the value. You just have to look at the price of a throttle cable e.g. £42 (inc vat) Really?
I'll continue to buy from Power, Racetech etc as the service has been good and hopefully Dom will factor my support in to a price discount for a 4.3 . If RG offers competitive prices then I'll use them but as a backup

I don't enjoy speaking to automotive parts advisors. I'm generalising here, but they tend to be the most miserable, soul-destroying people to talk to.
So far, and I too am generalising of course, I haven't found that with any of the TVR parts suppliers I have contacted. TVR Power, Racetech, Racing Green; all were helpful, cheerful and one might even go as far as saying 'enthusiastic' about what they are doing. The amount of time that these guys (from each of those suppliers) have spent on occasion searching for the correct part, or providing additional information, has I am sure exceeded the profit margin on the part(s) being supplied.
Try them; they don't bite. Really

I think all would agree; competition is a good thing for the customer, and possibly to a degree for the suppliers.I'll continue to buy from Power, Racetech etc as the service has been good and hopefully Dom will factor my support in to a price discount for a 4.3 . I do not think however that our car parts prices are out of line at all. Most parts today are a lot cheaper than when (or at least haven't increased since) TVR was the sole supplier (even £42 for a throttle cable ). In fact, I well remember paying £30 something just for an orange oil filler cap from TVR.
Servicing rates are also generally much lower. £65-£75/hour was the going rate in 2000 (while my Volvo dealer charged £85). I don't think I've paid over £45/hour in the last 6 years.
All of which supports your statement; Competition has been a good thing.
Continuing to support the suppliers that have always provided good service and parts in the past for you is a good thing. Like any business, it's often as much about the relationships, as the services offered that make the difference in the quality of service if not the quality of the supplied goods.
Shopping around will always make sense. Keep doing it.
The continuing, guaranteed supply of 'genuine' quality parts, many of which are far too obscure to be manufactured by anyone other than the principal company has to be a good thing. In fact essential if we wish to keep these cars on the road.
That does not exclude the existence of specialist developers of performance / enhanced components such as we currently have with the likes of TVR Power etc.

Then just think of that extra cost as a luxury premium.
The point being; these cars were never cheap to own were they?. They were always a luxury purchase.Put into perspective, most people would still find it difficult to justify spending £40k for a new TVR Chimaera / Griffith today, never mind 15 years ago.
Today, when a 10k miles car appears in an add for £25-£30, 99% of respondents say; 'no way!', 'would never pay that for a garage queen' etc. etc.
Dirt cheap price to own a (nearly) 'new' one if you ask me.
It's sadly not something I could aspire to just now, even if I did manage it once years ago.
