Weekend in Tewkesbury - where to go ?
Discussion
Head towards Evesham on the A46, pick up the A44 into the Cotswolds via Fish Hill.
You could then loop back towards Tewkesbury via Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water, or you could do. Bigger loop and head out to Stratford via Chipping Camden and Shipston.
Either way plenty of decent roads and nice villages for stop offs.

I've always assumed that the chaps who drive up Fish Hill at the weekend are doing it so they can stare at other men's bottoms in Lycra? Lots of good roads in the North Cotswolds though, from stretches of the Fosse Way to the route to Stow via Guiting Power and Lower Swell.

Fish Hill is generally pain in the backside (no pun intended) due to our mates in Lycra, and other dawdlers, but the roads on the other side are cool.

What I love about living out there is that you essentially have two types of road, one set that is near perfect for Tivs and the other set that is perfect for Rangies.

Note the drive from Tewkesbury through Ashchurch is a painful drive these days, but its soon over (watch for camera vans on teh A46 in Ashchurch just after the bridge over the railway where the limit drops to 30mph)
The drive from Stow to Burford is also a great road and Burford is nice and a good spot for lunch.
Alternatively you can head from Tewkesbury into Herefordshire there are some good roads, and its quite a nice drive to Malvern too
I'd have a drive out on the A438 to Ledbury, then on up the A417 towards Leominster, Berrington Hall (National Trust) is worth a stop, up the A49 to Ludlow which is lovely, then down the A49 to Woofferton and off down the B4362 past Croft castle (also National Trust) on to Shobdon airfield for great cafe and also great roast on a Sunday, a drive around the Herefordshire Black and White village trail (Eardisland where we are, Pembridge, Weobley) and then cross country back via Hereford to Tewkesbury. The roads our neck of the woods are pretty good and reasonably quiet.
There is a usually PH Southwest Breakfast Club meet at 9.30am on Sunday at the AV8 restaurant at Kemble Airfield. A great drive through the Cotswolds with a good breakfast at the end.
To make the most of the drive
Take A46 from Tewkesbury towards Evesham
At the second roundabout take the 3rd exit sign posted to Stow on the Wold B4077
follow that road through Ford then take a right sign posted Bourton on the Water (I think, also Cotswold Farm Park)
follow that road (great road early in the mroning) until it joins A429 Fosse Way
turn right onto the Fosee and follow signs to Cirencester (note there is 1 speed camera otherwise its a great road)
at cirencester follow signs to Tetbury
after you go under a railway bridge take the left to Kemble airfiled and once on the airfield follow signs to AV8
You get some great roads and great scenery, get to see some good cars at the end and maybe even meet Petrol Ted, the guy who started PH!

TVR CC Cotswold 3 Counties meet up on Sunday 30th at the Aviator at Staverton airfield for a morning breakfast this weekend around 10.00 to 10.30. (Gloucestershire Airport, Cheltenham, UK GL51 6SR). From the forum there already about half a dozen going. The breakfast is great and it's only 8 miles from Tewkesbury.
Thanks for all the suggestions, Cotswolds or Mendips sounds great. Might get a chance to do both as setting off Friday am. Weather looking half decent so may get some decent scenic photos of a dirty Tuscan. Probably won't be able to make the meet as the intent of the weekend is to have lazy mornings plus we have to get back to release the kids & the cats from their cages.....
Theres a pub down there called The Lower Lode Inn. Been down there recently with a motorcycle group, its quite nice.
Absolutely bear caution though, if its crap weather and there is flooding, don't attempt.....they had a tide mark halfway up the door line. This btw is about 3m above a "normal" river height.
Its a single track road for a good mile and a half to get there, don't sat nav it or it will take you to the other side of the "ford" ( whoever can ford that is fking brave )
See here.

Well we had a good run to the hotel on the Stow/Toddington road, only encountering one cyclist. Today the weather was brighter but still slippy. The Ledbury road was closed so we had a bit of a diversion but headed up there and onto Malvern. The top was shrouded in mist so didn't stop for a walk. Headed back down the lowlands in better weather to Ross-on-Wye and had the road pretty much to ourselves. A bit different to M25 homelands, would be nice to revisit when grippier tarmac. The old girl needs a bit of a wash now:
