I’m considering a number of options at present for a full respray required on my T350 (unfortunately due to a piss poor recent full respray it’ll likely be stripped back to gel and repainted) and was after opinions on Surface and Design. I’m aware a number of people on here say they are good but I’m after a balanced view (PM me if need be) just in case, though I’m more than happy if they are indeed the best. smile
I’ve spoken with a chap at S&D and he seems enthusiastic and knowledgeable but you can’t beat real world experience. Unfortunately I’m a long way from Blackpool so popping over to see them isn’t easy.

Brilliant, without question. My 350 was painted by them a few years back and the finish remains the best I've ever seen on a fibreglass car. Previous owner paid the extra for the deripple stage, and I'm very pleased that he did smile

I doubt anyone would take my opinion as balanced as I guess I'm well known as a supporter of S&D but I'm a supporter for good reason.

I am fortunate enough to live within easy driving distance of them and have known them since they started and have seen them grow and I've seen a great deal of their work not just on TVRs but other exotics such as PW's Alvis collection, Aston Martins, BMW M1, Lotus, Cobras, etc. some of those cars that have gone on to win awards at shows for paint and presentation. They also make panels/assemble bodywork for both the Chevron GR8 and their historic race cars.

They do work for a number of well known specialists who send just about everything they to Blackpool for both trimming at D&C/Trim Technician and paintwork/fibreglass at S&D. I won't say who they are as I've got into trouble for commenting in the past but some of the projects are very high profile and you'll be aware of those cars.

They're not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and when there are issues (no one is perfect) they will stand by their work and rectify it if it's down to their work. I've known them also repair faults that weren't even down to them.

They've done work for a good number of the guys from The West Midlands region of the TVRCC after they'd seen the paint finish on cars shown at the NEC Classic. Les Edgar was very impressed with the paint and finish on one of those cars when it was displayed last year.

They repaired and repainted my Griffith after my accident, the work and finish is just amazing and I am picky.

If you really need some comfort why not pop up on the train to have a look round and a chat? They have some interesting projects in there at the moment.

The difficulty here is that I'm not aware of any disappointed customers of S&D. There have been a few of our North East TVRCC members who have had work done, and they are all delighted. A good friend of mine had is black Sagaris painted in metallic white and it looks stunning, but more telling was a repair to a Cerbera rear wing after a minor accident where the finish on the repair was so good in made all the ripples on the rest of the car stand out.

My Tuscan needs a refresh to the paint and I'd love them to do it, but can't afford their cost at the moment. Pricy but worth it.

Thanks all. Reason for asking is the garage I used late last year for my repair are supposed to be fastidious but my full respray (at first they denied having done a full respray until I showed them pics of my car in their workshop back to full primer) is awful and I've heard from many others since (both TVR and normal cars) who have had big issues and little comeback.
I'm currently going through the motions with insurance, inspctions etc but will need all the paint stripping off and redoing hence the original question and I can't afford to make the same mistake again.

Once all the dust is settled I'll post up the pics to all and sundry, obviously not mentioning who on here (that can come from PM) but it's been a stressful 12 months.

I think V8GRF may be referring to my Chimaera that was on the TVRCC stand at last years Classic Car Show displaying S&D's number plates. S&D had carried out a full respray to my car in Rosso Pearl and anyone familiar with this colour will know how difficult it is to get absolutely right. They did a superb job and would not let me collect the car until they were 100% satisfied with the result. Everyone who has seen my car comments on the finish and wants to know who carried out the respray. Needless to say I can't recommend them enough and although some feel that they are expensive, the price paid was still the best part of £1000 cheaper quoted by two other TVR paint specialists.

Picking my car up first thing tomorrow as discussed last Saturday, Tony. Will be at Mat Smith's by about 11 if you were planning on dropping by.

Have you inspected the paint job on Mat's S? Done by Chris Browm round the corner. I was well impressed.

Hi Anthony - not sure I'm going to able to make it as I have a cat to take to the vets in the morning. How did your little project go?
Tell Mat to let me know how much I owe him BTW wink

I'll pop your goods back to him in the next week or so - thanks again for that.

The pics I have been emailed look good, thanks - will see it in the flesh in a few hours time and report back. I at least managed to get a good finish on the fibreglass, thanks to Mat's comprehensive array of tools and kind advice.

I dropped our project 5400M at S&D last week for GRP surgery and a full paint job (back to bare glass first).

Very impressed with the custom work they are doing and I'm confident it's in the right place. smile

Yes, I was one of those asking about your car at the show. It was really good and having had a similar experience to Zippee, did not want to repeat it.

I too asked for opinions before I had my DB7 resprayed and the paint shop had been voted the best Porsche painter for 5 years on the trot (trophies and awards from Porsche). The group also sell Bentleys, Ferraris, Astons etc. So I thought it would be excellent. Suffice to say, another £800 by a detailer near Warrington to remove marks, scratches and swirls.

I think you need to ensure that the painter you choose has the same aspirations and expectations as you. That was my mistake. They didn't.

Mate of mine had his Chimaera re-sprayed at S&D and a re-trim next door at D&C Trim. He aw very pleased with. You really couldn't fault the work and the finish. And we live in Kent so a fair old chug up north to get the work done.

Had my Tuscan (purple illusion) repaired by them, the complete back end
I've looked over it time and time again from 4 inches away and I can't fault it in any way and I've had many cars painted over the years and am a fussy bugger and this is the only repair I've been100% happy with
