This is kinda relevant as it could change the competition for any new TVR ...

I know i'm risking being shot down for being a TVR heretic redcard ....but I'm not, I love them and will keep my Tuscan ..and try to add another TVR in the coming years ....

However , I just put a deposit down on one of these :

For £35k you get an 'iconic' (?), brand new, RWD, 420Bhp, V8 that apparently (according to the reviews) goes round corners well, and the steering wheel is on the right side for the first time in 50 years ...and it's very upgradeable for power (sc kit for 630bhp ~£5k).

I'm a TVR owner, fan, club member, TiTT runner ...but i was still lured in by this American imposter ! yikes

What's the world coming to ? If potentially the Jag 'F' type was competiton for a new TVR , could this UK mustang also be a 'poor' mans compettion to an F type ....and therefore even more competition for TVR ......

Don't mis understand me ; I'm not drawing comparisons between TVR and Ford ..or Tvr's and Mustangs ...just that it could appeal to some TVR owners .....like me. I hope Les Edgar and TVR are super successful with the relaunch of TVR and I'll be as keen as any TVR owner to support their new cars and will continue to support TVR generally ....but the (UK) car market just got a bit tougher for new model entrants.

I have been thinking along the same lines, am going to test drive one when they arrive, Seems alot of car for the money, I doubt a new TVR would be in that price bracket.

Funny you say that as in another thread I suggested the new mustang as a great start for underpinnings for the new TVR.

As I'm here in the US I'm seriously considering a GT too. Had a sit in one at the Houston motor show last week - very nicely built compared to the outgoing model.

I do like that, and it does appear to be great value for what you get.

But it is over 500kg heavier than any TVR. But, it does look good and I am sure goes well, too.

Based on old known tvr weight's, not knowing what spec any new car will be, with safety and comfort in mind.Might not be that far off.

Brief history.
The TVR Grantura was a sportscar built by english sportscar make TVR from 1958 to 1967.

It was widely used as a track day car beacuse of its lightness and handling.
Through its four generations, it mounted many engines, up to the 1800cc MGA engine.
The Grantura was the first model of a great series of awesome sportscar by TVR.
The new one.
The new Grantura has home-built chassis and mechanics. The kerb weight is around 970 kg.
The engine comes from the 2015 Ford Mustang. 2.3 Ecoboost L4, turbocharged to 320 BHP with a top speed of 255 km/h.
The design is aggressive but aimed to lightness. A big mouth and two "G" ledlights that remind the "G" of Grantura. The mirrors are inspired to the racing one, with a mostly triangular shape.
Wide arches and side vents complete an angry front end of the car.
The equipment is quite a serious racing one: sports road tyres, limited slip differential, dog-ring gearbox optional, shell seats optional, sports exhaust optional...
The use of standard materials keep the price low, at less than 50.000 euros for the base model, But finest materials are requestable by optional.

What is it? It's someone's idea of what they think the new TVR SHOULD be.... along with a rather poor concept drawing.

The idea itself is rather good.

The Ford 2.3 litre motor, in a light vehicle that is road worthy that is priced at or below the Cayman would make for a sound strategy. Engineer it for worldwide distribution (if Morgan can do it...) and there may be hope for TVR.

Chasing the 150,000 Euro marketplace is fools gold.

No new TVRs, but Porsche Boxter/Cayman is very available in the meantime - Obviously not the V8 many prefer, but a different 6 cyl flavour, if that's what you like. I know, because I've bought one after parting with my T350C.

yes

The Porsche Boxter/Cayman now has more or less the same performance as the T cars from a decade ago - they have now caught up, and now in an arguably better package.

What's to argue? Of course they are in a better package, it's mass produced German engineered car....

Totally different concept to the T cars and I personally find them extremely dull and driven by a certain breed and not really comparable in any way.....

I agree! I was playing Devil's Advocate.

I would very much doubt I would have paid well over £20k over and abvove the purchase price of a Boxter to get it perfect, like I did with my TVR. smile
