Sounds like Wighty needs to pop down to Pantiles for the next TVR meet, if you are interested in young ladies. (Did I say "too" young for you?)
OR a cold shower.

I'm interested in the two at the same time type ladies and the ones that love to on top of me!! Tell me when and I'll try and be there!

You're up North, unfortunately Pantiles is in Surrey where we start out meets . . we'll send you some piccies next week!

I start a contract in the City a week on Monday! It's a long term one also, so I'll still be there when my Cerbera arrives and for quite a long time afterwards! I'll come down to Pantiles very shortly if you don't mind! Hope you don't mind a Daft Geordie tagging along!
Chin Chin Chop Chop! I'll see you soon!

Can any of you chaps already in IT give me some help on how I can possibly do some volountary work in networking?
There is only so much I can learn in front of a PC, home based study/books. I need to get some time in a network enviroment to gell together what I have learnt so far. I have been on 2 courses(admitedly too soon into studying this Cisco stuff) and everyone on them was ALREADY in IT. Is there such a thing as volountary work experience, etc?

Cheers
Tiv

Andy - I'm OK, mind if I post this to a friend - he's a bit sharp (despite being french!!).

Feel free.
I wouldn't normally recruit this way. I may have to be saying "No thanks" to a few fellow Pistonheaders and I have some discomfort with that, but we really are looking for people with the right skill set who are prepared to work. There's the old Yankee adage about "going the extra mile etc". It's a nauseating line but it's what we need.
Anyone interested can e mail me direct:

Discretion assured!

WTF has it got to do with you how people make their money?

Not sure where your coming from. What I meant was in my original trouble causing statement was, its about time IT people suffered from lack of work as most of the population have had to suffer, such as engineering. Not so long ago you would see many jobs advertising stupid amounts of money for programmers etc. And many you could specify your own wage. This demand caused many and I have first hand experience of a load of friends who became rather stuck up about the wage they earned and how in demand they were.

Thats the point I was trying to make. But I fear like me you may experience the redundancy lark. Luckily I managed to get another job quick.

So what overpaid profession do you follow then Zippy?

Do yourself a favour and crawl out from under than chip. Let the grown ups talk now, go play with your toys.

Im a mechanical engineer and I wouldnt say its overpaid, Im sure all IT jobs get more than me. And Ive just played with my toy and very nice it was too.

Where I'm coming from is that you jumped in calling all IT contractors overpaid primadonners. If you chose the wrong career and the wrong friends then that's your problem, surely? We were just talking about the state of play of the UK contracting market, if you want to discuss it without flouncing around then feel free, if you don't, off.

Zippy, just because you have known a few tossers who were contractors does not mean we are all the same. I too have known contractors who were full of themselves (and sh1te). Anyone who makes a big issue of how much they earn has to be pretty shallow. Sounds like you could use some new friends.

Some of us had been contracting for a long time, working long and hard, and only taking home "reasonable" money for our efforts. We don't all work in the city, and we don't all attract £75/hour rates - I wish. I know contractors who have made more in three years than I have in 14.

Decent hardworking people are finding their livelihood threatened, and to revel gleefully in their predicament comes across as spiteful, churlish and not a little immature.

Im very pleased with my career and dont regret it one bit, despite the past, and I would much rather be doing it than sat in front of a monitor all day. I never said they were my friends. Too full of their own self importance for my liking.

FWIW IMO the people that went contracting with very little real commercial experience and still charged the top rates fcuked it for the rest of us. I have always worked on the basis that a contractor is there to do a specific job quickly devolving information about said project in a uniform and understandable manner along the way, a bit like a mentor for hire type affair whilst still performing a specific task.

Its the worst I have ever seen in in 10 years at the moment, I got a jobserve mailer the other day, filtered to both contract and permanoid and there wasnt a single job on it.

Matt.
