Bit of a dull week at work has got me thinking. I don't want to start the "Don't go there/get a 5.0/give it a tune" type debates because we've all seen them.
Thing is - what size lump could you get in a Chimaera without cutting up the engine bay or bonnet. You see I don't ever see me selling my blue rocket but I guess over time the lump will get a little tired and it could come to the point of renewing it.
Plus the fact a badge on the back saying 'Chimaera 760' would look pretty cool!
So my somewhat straight forward thinking goes like this. I have heard in the past of 'small block Chevy' engines, now I'm guessing by this they mean a compact type engine, and if they are compact how big CC wise do they get and would one fit?
If we've done this thread before just post a link and I'll go away quietly but I can't find anything in the search pages.

No idea which ones would fit but a Chimaera with a 4.5 tvr ajp would bee cool I reckon. The other engine I have always liked is the corvette zr1 engine designed by lotus with about 400 brake and all aluminum construction. Not sure if it would fit. I seem to remeber this had a 6 speed box in the corvette, same box as the lotus carlton etc
Bet the chimaera chassis and getting traction with that much power would be the limiting fact somehow
Just bored so though i might throw some ideas round!

I fancy a tuned 4.0 V8 Lexus lump dropping into my chim when the time comes, they are much lighter than the old small blocks and totally bomb proof, there is talk of these engines doing 1 million miles in the states. This sound better than "100,000 and its knackered sir" that we usually get with the rover unit !!
In america, these engines with stock bottom ends produce upwards of 800bhp

Just don't tell anyone that it's a jap engine.

A small block Chevy (refered to as a mouse motor) is normally 327 or 350 cubic inches 5.3 litres and 5.7 litres respectively. Fuel injected they produce around 300- 350 bhp and 320--350 LB ft torque. they`ve been around in various guises for donkeys years and are ultra reliable and very tough.

The bigger engines 427 (7 litre) 454 (7.4) are called rat motors and put out anything between 375--450. bhp

The rat could be a tight fit in the TVR.

I`ve a `89 Range Rover with a 350 Chevy installed ( aside from the Griffith) so I`m covered for all weathers.

Um, don't reckon it would do 1 million miles if it were tuned up to 800 bhp. Everyone thinks that tuned Jap engines are bombproof, and I suppose that compared to TVRs they are, but compared to normal production cars need a lot of care.

Obviously this all depends on the state of tune but I was surprised to find out how much care tuned skylines need. Check out www.prospec-ms.co.uk and look under knowledge.
