Well anther 250 miles round trip to see yet anther excellent described chimera.
This was number 6 or 7 cant remember now,
Advertised with just 20k on the clock I thought it cant be a bad car, How wrong could that be.
All history tallied just didn't tally up with the cars condition.

Took the car for a drive to find the throttle was like a on and off switch and the engine missing like a missing thing.
It must be low on petrol or damp the owner said, I mean come on who tries to sell a 10k car with no petrol in it.
For them that's interested its the blue one on a well known auction site.
If anyone's intending to go have a look at it I,l give you a Honest description it maybe ideal for you just not me.

I don't want to go posting it straight away as people may think im just being bitter, I am a bit tbh anther day wasted.
The owner is a dealer and did seem a tidy enough chap just don't think he knows anything about Tvr,s.

Maybe I should start looking for a 911....

Have you had a look at Tony Gilbert's site.
Great cars and good dealer.
I have no connection other than having bought a T350C from him.

Had a similar experience when looking for my first one, trekked all the way to East Yorkshire to see a Griff that looked great on top but underneath was rougher than a rough thing that's been roughed up....

Fortunately second one was a lot better and the seller was guy who was really into working on cars himself - his garage at home would have put a dealership to shame!

It wasn't perfect but it was an honest car so I took the plunge. Next one I bought was from a PHer and had been rebuilt by him, all documented on a few threads on PH and elsewhere.

I'd think long and hard before travelling a long way to see a car that wasn't 'known' to some extent on here.
There are always risks buying any TVR and no guarantees that people will treat you in the way thet'd like to be treated themselves but in my experience the folk on here are a fantatstic resource - use em.

And by the way - a 911..? redcard

Now may be a good time to bag a potential bargain where open cars are concerned, but there will probably be a larger selection of cars to choose from when things warm up a little.

Not sure what you're looking for specifically, particularly price-wise, but I saw this in the summer and I don't think it's ever seen water.

It is Robs car, he has another one for sale too.

I've been looking for a month or so now, started looking at £6K cars, slowly my budget is getting bigger as I realise that the 6K cars need 4K spending on them, at which point I might as well buy a 10K car with the work already done.

There are good ones out there, you just have to hunt for them, I'm seeing another tomorrow and fingers crossed its as good as it sounds.

Why would a 911 be any better described?

This ^^^^^^^

Bought my first Chim from him in January and a really good bloke to deal with. Put the car on the ramp and left me to it. He's a TVR nutter or he has a fetish about purple. Took the car on his trailer to Power for its upgrades at no cost AND put petrol in it. How many dealers do that? whistle

It's hard to find a good one for 10K anyways,,, rare cars, super fast, lots of work to keep a supercar super,, if the chassis is good it's rare, if it's been repaired it's expensive to do so there's the problem, I can't find many genuine sportscars of merit for less than ten grand, not one that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds...
A good Tvr is worth it's weight in gold and a bad one will cost lots of gold, there's no cheap answer in my view.
A 4L Chim is a possibility at 10 k but not much else,, not a genuine good one anyway!
Raise the bar a bit and you'll have many a good car to choose from.
If you like fixing stuff the. Get a cheaper car but you'll still have to spend to make it good!
Just my pennies worth.
James Agger is a gent, that's a fact.

There is one for sale on the TVR CC web site - full body off restored 4.3 looks like a bargain at £12k. Happy to message the seller for you if you are not a member.

I cant see the car on there? Ideally I really would like power steering but I am torn whether to get one with or go for a 4.3.

I'll stick my neck out and say that I think because there are so many horror stories floating around on the internet about TVR ownership, prospective purchasers start getting overly picky.
I remember when I was selling my Chim 400 (very cheaply too) and someone viewing it and turning it down because the leather was a bit cracked and he didn't like the colour of the interior. Chassis, engine, drivetrain etc....all spot on. But a blue interior? No way!

I suspect one day he'll discover retrims are cheaper than chassis refurbs rolleyes
