Wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and could throw out some specialists that could help me out?

We have a Tuscan Red Rose in the family and insurance is due this month, I was to get insured as a named driver at 24 years old.

I have a claim in the last 12 months hence no NCB however I live 120 miles away from the car so will be driving a handful of times a year anyway.

I have tried MSM (They are quoting me as we speak) we have tried numerous online comparison sites and the like but they are all ridiculous or wont even insure me as a named.

Talking 3000 miles max two drivers in there 50's and me. Garaged, Postcode rating B.

I have seen 22 year olds with no NCB getting quotes for 1200 on there own with higher mileage I don't understand.

Cheers Guys

I share your frustration. When my son was 22 MSM insured him at, great cost, on my Vixen (88bhp) as a named driver, when non of the classic insurers would consider him. He's now 24 and the insurer of my Griffith want him to be 30 before they will consider adding him to my policy. Hope you find a sensible quote and would love to know which company.

I got a quote from MSM today and although very high considering the fact I do have a claim it was not too bad.

However I live 120 miles away from the car so will be driving it very rarely, so they offered me the chance to be added to the policy as and when for, a week at a time (30 days max) and considering the weather in this country and my distance from the car I think this is the best choice. Obviously this comes at a cost but for a weeks insurance fully comp it works out very well I believe.

MSM allow under 25 on all TVRs apparently so maybe give them a call, they took into consideration the fact I will rarely drive the car, the fact I had driven the car before, my previous history driving even though I had a claim, my previous NCB etc.

If he has a clean license and has experience driving the car I would call the woman I spoke to was extremely helpful.

I think you will probably struggle with that claim on your record. It is not an easy task to get insured on a TVR for a sensible price under 25 anyway.

I looked into owning a TVR when I was under the age of 25 but in the end it was so expensive that I decided just to wait. I personally will not pay over £1000 for insurance so I suppose is depends entirely on how much money you are prepared to spend.

MSM were my saving grace when I bought my first TVR. I was 21 at the time trying to get insured on a 4.2 Cerbera. They came in at not far over £1000, which I thought was spectacularly good value for money. In fact, that made it the cheapest car I had ever insured at that point. Every other classic and sports car specialist I tried either wouldn't insure a TVR for under 25s, or seemingly deliberately priced themselves out of the market. Still using MSM four years on, and they have been excellent throughout.

Tried some of the main stream insurers? They are now insuring the cars provided they aren't modified ( or are agreed). You may need to call rather than try the online quotes.

Byker28i is right. My son is 23 and owns a 4.2 Cerb, had it over a year now. With a main stream insurer on his own multi car policy, limited 5000 miles a year, fully comp at about 800 just for the Cerb. Keep looking you can get a reasonable deal I'm sure.

I would highly recommend MSM insurance.

Dawn, the woman who seems to answer all calls and emails at any time of day, is really helpful. I recently purchased my insurance through MSM, 21yr old on 4L Griff, by far the best quote around.

This. Used MSM for 3 or 4 years now, no messing about & will work to secure a product that meets your needs at a good price. There are cheaper but buyer beware, you only really know how good your insurance is when you have to use it.

Have you tried Classic Line ? Cheapest I could find, although I am an old duffer so can't be sure they will be any good for you. Worth a call though.
