I need somewhere to get the annual service and MOT done near Peterborough, issue is I would need to drop the car off and then get a train back to Peterborough. Anyone know of anywhere nearby? Ideally something south down the A1 would be good... Melton Mowbray and Downham Market are a bit of a trek with the public transport.

I would also endorse Matt Smith Sports cars in Downham Market. Ask to borrow his courtesy car, thats what I have done for the past couple of years.

There is Offord Motor Company between Huntingdon and StNeots . Its directly down the A1 from peterboro. http://www.offordmotorco.co.uk/tvr---saab and they have courtesy cars .

Massive thumbs up for Mat. Been working on TVR's for many many years.

Also techniques in stotfold, took my Chim there for many years before buying the tuscan that's now in Mat's very capable hands

I go to Mat Smith.

Just had mine serviced there and had his courtesy car for two days as the exhaust manifolds had to come off for gasket replacement. Great TVR guy, all the right knowledge and tools, and a full geo and corner weighting kit. Doddle of a drive from Peterborough - A47 to Wisbech, then A1101 to Downham Market (40 minutes). He is actually about a three minute walk from Downham Market station (but will drop you to the train anyway), so train to Ely (17 mins) then change to the March/Peterborough train (35 minutes).

If you prefer no change of trains, an easy one to get to from Peterborough is Willow Sports Cars at Newark. More famed for their chassis work (they work for other TVR specialists and there's nothing they don't know about chassis mods), they are very close to Newark Northgate station on the East Coast main line, which is about 30 minutes from Peterborough station.

Another vote here for Mat and he does have a courtesy car smile
Or as Anthony said - train to Ely then Peterborough. I have to take the train to Cambridge, walk, then bus to St Neots but it's worth it for the service given.

Bespoke are very good as already mentioned though still a PITA to get to/from Peterborough via public transport.
Not heard any bad about Willow or PPC either.
The only 1 I'd not go to is Offord through past experience, though they may have now sorted themselves out - I know they were working hard to rebuild their brand.

This looks a handy location, I would intend to carry on to London so works well, the others are all a bit out the way. I have a 4.0 chim, not sure why it says it's sold, I hope not!

As Tony says, I wouldn't go to Offords, again not had a great experience there in the past... But they may have turned things around since, but once burnt (twice) and all that.

I'm just down the road from Offord's, I think their biggest problem was the previous owners who no longer have anything to do with it. Their chief mechanic of many years is still there and working hard to rebuild their reputation by word of mouth, he's a good guy and knows his way round a TVR. I've been very happy with their recent service, but that said Matt Smith is also very good.

Just go to Mat Smith and borrow his courtesy car - I would hardly call him a trek from Peterborough - 34 miles of A road by car.
His courtesy car in a nice comfortable air conditioned Nissan Almera. It's almost always available. What's not to like? I have never used public transport.

He just serviced my Chim, changed the springs for stronger ones, replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets, changed the racing brake pads and fluid, changed the plugs for iridium ones and set the suspension up correctly for the new springs. Car feels like new. I am off on a sprint day in two weeks time with full confidence in the car.

Sorry, didn't read this first time. Downham Market (Mat Smith) is on the Kings Lynn - Cambridge - Kings Cross line.

Spoke to Mat this afternoon - the landline was accidentially off the hook all afternoon - and he is off on holiday from tonight for a week.

Was making a booking for Samy on the 28th of April.
