The 'OP' asked a question and some offered fact, we can only offer fact. How anyone chooses to interpret the facts supplied is up to them. It seems answering questions on here can become questionable in itself.
Just for the record I have never said, nor thought that a non x-bolted engine is a ticking bomb. hippy

Be interesting to know how many owners have had blow ups and how many had cross bolted engines. I've had mine
An early pre-serp 500 for 11 yrs and put 40k on it . I didn't know about all this cross bolting business . Perhaps ignorance is bliss. I wonder if the owners of cross bolted engines are lulled into a false sense of security , as I know of plenty of non cross bolted cars that are used as intended and have never blown up. driving

My un cross bolted 500 is a 1997 and achieved 100K without a 'blow up'.

Tis now cross bolted, top hat linered and internally balanced though lick. (for peace of mind)

My 500 isn't cross bolted. I have run nitrous on it producing 383bhp and 440ft/lb. I now have a turbo fitted 463bhp and 525ft/lb. I think it is all down to the individual engine.

When I had my rovers you could see where the mains caps had been fretting against the block casing. I fitted an ARP stud kit. The stud kit was sufficient and despite the extra clamping it gave, a line bore of the casing wasn't needed. There are plenty of high power rv8's running just the stud kits.
