Mintex 1144 pads squeal?
Discussion
I did exactly the same on my Cerb and had exactly the same issue, the pads squealed front and back,I also had my front discs skimmed and I`m sure the front pads contributed to the discs warping again. I ended up buying new front discs and fitted EBC Redstuff pads to the fronts, this resolved the problem but the rears still squealed so ended up changing them to EBC too.
My opinion is the Mintex pads are too hard for standard road use, they may be fine for track use where you can get heat into them, I raised this issue on PH previously and other people had different opinions but this was my experience with Mintex 1144 pads.
So.....the solution is.....fit EBC Redstuff....before you warp your discs!

Thanks guys. The noise driving out yesterday sent me mad!! People were looking at me, not for the sound of the engine but the bloody brakes...
I just use the car for normal road use, so what are good normal pads to use? I don't wish to purchase expensive pads again. Also any makes I should steer clear of??
Thanks

Just go to Euro Car Parts and buy a set of Pagid pads, Pagid pads are used by many manufacturers from new and are super quality.I just use the car for normal road use, so what are good normal pads to use? I don't wish to purchase expensive pads again. Also any makes I should steer clear of??

The car will brake perfectly and you'll have no squeal.

Do you have a part number or link for the 3M pads?
I get mine here.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191314514764?_trksid=p20...
I had a larger 4 pot kit fitted and went with Mintex 1144 pads as half the price of preferred ferodo.
Mechanic said to me when fittingthen - ooo not seen Mintex pads since the late 90's in the scooby & evo days but everyone stopped using them as they squeal so badly and nothing you can do to stop it...
fitted em to car, first drive awful noise on light-medium braking, doesnt seem to matter if i warm them up or not. Took them back apart loads more slip, still did it.
Dropped car into Taylor TVR last week, they heard me coming round the corner and made the same comment about the noise of Mintex.. new pads ordered, going to the more expensive Ferodo i should have had in the first place, now they cost even more after wasting money on the mintex

Don't know if this is true or not, but I was told that if the 1144s were squealing you weren't using them hard enough and your driving style perhaps meant you shouldn't be using such a hard friction material anyway, but a more road orientated material. The Mintex 1144s in my Tamora do not squeal, but I don't consider myself to be paticularly hard on the brakes.
Well I had a fantastic track day at Goodwood on Monday - Chimaera behaved impeccibly as usual. brakes were excellent and no squealing! BUT I drove to the station and they are just starting to squeal occassionally! i have the car booked in for a service beginning of June and so will see how they are then. Such a shame as they really were excellent for the track (Five 15 minute sessions of pretty hard driving, even by my sedate standards!)I find them great on the road as well.
light braking is the real problem, I am also finding myself leaving braking much later in traffic then having to really stamp on them to stop the damn noise, not good for the passenger and very worrying when you have to hope the person behind is awake and prepared to stand on the brakes as well.
Braking performance is VERY good, have no problems with that at all, and from high speed they really haul you up, but from 30mph and below you can hear them starting to squeal on on mid-light braking.
hot or cold doesn't seem to matter or make any difference to the noise, still hear me coming home from around the corner, except it not exhaust noise, its the brakes lol

As I wrote earlier in the thread Im a big fan.
Went to Anglesey circuit on Friday in my Mazda MPS with 1144's on the front, as usual squeaking and scraping away.
Did the day with lots of big stops, setting the emegency hazard warning lights off.
Bloody things are quiet as a mouse now, I know it wont last though.
