Hi can anyone tell me this , on my logbook the engine number is 47A40P689G same as in the id plate in the engine bay and also "but " in small letters on the block !! In large letters are also 47A01130A stamped in the block like original letters and numbers , is their a chance my engine has been changed in the past ? As it has covered 135000 I would have thought someone has stamped these underneath ? Is their a way to track engine numbers ? It also has markings CR 935.1 I take it that's the compression ratio ?

Your opinions please

Ok then , done a bit of digging and found if the original engine of the car was destroyed the replacement engine would be stamped in the block by most TVR dealers ? And the replacement engine code was47A00001 series relates to a Morgan +8 9.35:1 CR EFI
Which is a factory 3.9 !! However the heads are new so I still won't know if it is HC engine !!
Anyone ??

Rimmer Bros have an RV8 numbers database but I think it will just tell you what you already know.

TVR obtained their engines directly from Rover. Rover at the time had an 'exclusive' deal with Morgan for their engines but TVR wanted them in larger quantities and Rover were struggling at the time so the deal was 'forgotten' and they supplied TVR from the batches that were intended for Morgan, hence the Morgan identifier.

Not sure if TVR stamped their own number in the Wedge engines but on later TVRs the TVR number was stamped on the nearside front of the engine under the exhaust manifold iirc.

HC stand for High Lift Cam not High Compression.

Oh right so theirs a chance that my engine is the original ? I just cant understand why they over stamped a new number but I suppose that they wanted the TVR id ? you would have thought they would have polished off the morgan ones banghead typical !!
think its best to do a rolling road run on the car see what the output is ? I guess I will have to take one of the heads off to determin the compression ratio as the new heads fitted (by other owner) may be high compression !! I need low compression if I am fitting this turbo next year ?

Steve,
Try contacting Russ Bradley, ex Griff owner, nice chap (you probably know him) and was responsible for the engine builds at Solihull:

Hi Ste, I wouldn't take much notice of the CR stamped on the block, it differs from 4.0, 4.6 and 5.0. I know from experience [and some others] that a TVR 4.6 [450] is nearer 8.9:1 and not 9.35:1
Best way is have heads off and measure. what size engine is it?

Hi,

I have found out that my Cerbera had a replacement engine about 6 years ago (since which it has only done about 12,000 miles). I have got the new engine number and I'm now keen to find out which car it came from and (importantly) how many miles it had done before it became a donor. Has anyone any idea how I could do this? I guess if I find out the registration number of the donor car, DVLA may have mileage at MOTs etc, but has anyone got any ideas how I can find out the registration number of the donor car?

Any help much appreciated!
