Change the piston - if the ring land has been deformed enough to nip the ring, the alloy will have fatigued. Asking for a failure to re-use.

The engine also locked up so I would be looking at the piston, rod and both bearing journals / gudgeon pin, if nothing else it all needs stripped and checked.. Rod should be checked for true / flatness..a mirror or plate glass will be good enough. I would also renew the rod bolts on that pot.

And don't forget to take the piston out the opposite side and get both balanced / weighted
