Cant see much on the site without being a member.
Is it worth paying the membership fee to become a member?
Or do people just use Piston heads?

I'm in the club and on PH. Personally for technical advice I prefer the PH forum and knowledge of those on it but I also enjoy being a club member. The monthly magazine is a good read, I think insurance is slightly discounted for club members, the monthly regional meet is a good excuse for a drive out and a few convoys with other TVR owners and certainly this year the 50th anniversary and members only day at Millbrook is a big plus. I was at Prescott hill climb on Saturday and the camaraderie with the TVR sprint challenge lads was great. Each to their own but personally I think the membership is worth it.

The reason I joined the club was more to give it support rather what I benefited from it,but it does have benefits included.

Many topics you see posted on PH will be mirrored on the club forums, but from what I have gathered there are plenty of TVRCC members that don't use PH.

Plenty of other posts seen on the club site also don't appear on here, and as mentioned each month a copy of the Sprint magazine which has some good reading.

Also discounts on car events going through the club, latest example being Donington Historic two tickets for the price of one. You then are open to purchasing the club merchandise if you are proud of walking around with the TVR club logo bowtie Shirts, hats, coats, mugs, brollies etc.

Many other regional events also running that you won't see on here,so for me I personally think it's worth joining.

Why don't you go along to you next regional meeting and see what your local region members are up to. You do not need to be a member to attend the regional meetings, but are obviously encouraged to become a member if you go regularly. Yes the spring magazine, discounts and TVR CC exclusive offers etc are good, but the real benefit comes from making friends in your local area which is not always that easy via a national site like PH.

Where are you based?

Yep, works for me too for all the reasons mentioned.
Good read, great pics, club discounts and offers, what not to like.
TBH, anyone who can afford a TVR can afford the membership subs.
You can probably cover the cost with special offers and discounts if you put some effort in!

^^^^ I was about to mention, I have met and made some good friends/drinking buddies joining the TVRCC and had access to some great events. Not all regions are the same though.

When I bought the last set of Toyos the TVRCC discount on the tyres was close to 2 years membership fee so well worth it. My main reason for joining was for the Sprint championship but as said above the magazine and the area meets are definitely worthwhile.

The £50 is far too expensive a pound a week that's extortionate prices in Cameron's Britain

I highly recommend club membership and attending your local regional meets - I'm lucky enough to belong to two regions, it means I get out twice as often wink

I just wish we got a club discount on beer.....

Perhaps I should clarify that a bit then.

If attending monthly meets, kicking tyres, talking bks (in the best way possible) and going for drives around are your thing then join.
I enjoy this occasionally but don't want to do it every month so the annual subscription is basically for a magazine which took me 10 minutes to read and more often than not didn't even get opened, so being a member of the club was a waste of money.

I once got a reduction on European travel cover for a trip to Le Mans because I was a member of a car club and I once went on an organised coach into town on Friday at Le Mans 24hr, but other than that I got no return for being in the club.
In 10 years of TVRCC membership I'd say that was a waste of money, so the club clearly isn't for me. But if anyone wants to enlighten me what I'm now missing out on I think both the OP and I would be interested to hear. However, I'm not going to get into any kind of slanging match about it here.

I’m a member of the TVRCC, mainly because the membership covers the 2 for 1 entry and in field parking for the Silverstone classic each year and I get the discount on some parts.
However, I don’t go to the meets, rarely attend events and Sprint tends to go straight in the bin as theres rarely anything in there of interest for me.
I enjoy owning my car, love driving it and will chat to other owners but the social side that is the club isn’t for me. Membership of the TVRCC is only worth it dependant upon what you want out of it.

Club membership isn't for everyone as there isn't a club that can cater for every taste and preference.
Some owners will enjoy going to the monthly meets and the events that are organised by some hard working regional organisers. And some will not. It happens in all clubs I have ever been a member of so TVRCC is no different.
I am a bit similar to Zippee in that I don't go to the monthly meets in my area but I have met up with some members who live reasonably close. I did go to Burghley but that will be the only TVRCC event for me. I wont be going to Blenheim, Silverstone or the 50th Birthday Bash as I prefer to do my own thing. I am entered for some car shows and will happily talk to TVR owners and anyone else about cars.
I have no interest at all in track days or racing so a large part of TVRCC/Sprint is not for me. But that is my choice. I am happy with that.

I too am not really into the TVRCC meets, but we all enjoy going to the Shelsley Walsh Breakfast Club (when we can get there), as there is a nice variety of different makes of car, rather than just TVR's.

I find the magazine is better now that it used to be, as they now include a lot more interesting 'hands on' articles that I enjoy reading. That is the only thing that I wanted when joining, TBH.

Im not really into the club scene as meeting up and arguing who has the biggest balls.
More interested in any discount's and find out who lives in my local area.
Some insurance company's also offer discount to club members.

It used to be worth it for the insurance discount, but now the main insurers will insure TVR's, I've mine insured with a major insurer for half what I was paying with unlimited mileage.

The magazines good, the club meets are good to pick and choose. Most of the members are top people but there are a couple of high and mighty, but you get that with any gathering. I don't go on the forum any more.

Depends on the region I would say, and what sort of things interest you. Is it standing around in a field admiring the shine on the cars, do you want to watch sprinting / racing, make foreign trips, convoy drives out etc. etc? Some regions will do some or maybe all of this, and I suspect some will do nothing but sit in a pub gassing. You will only find out by going along.

Out of interest (maybe an RO can comment), what would you do if a non-member wanted to join a trip, run out, race meeting? Refuse? Are these are specifically and individually covered by the TVRCC insurance?
