All leaks sorted, but car won't start looks like the timing is miles out, going to have a go at it tomorrow.

Before ripping anything apart, check that you have the HT leads on the Distributor Cap in the correct order - 1.8.4.3.6.5.7.2 with the distributor cap oriented as per the pic.

Cheers mate, I've printed it off, I'll go round tonight and give it the once over, I did notice a couple of plugs behind the alternator with no apparent home, one is a single spade the other is a three wire black plug, I'm sure all the wires to the coil are on will have a proper look tonight, I'll try and take a PIC, I was wondering if they were unused from a harness change or something.

The Coil should have 4 wires connected to it.

Other ignition associated plugs are:

1. on the side of the dizzy

2. into the Power Amp next to the coil to the right of the tag with 66 on it in the pic below

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ged, I'm sure there are four wires on the coil, but the one next to the 66 looks like a possibility, I cannot get round till tomorrow, so I will let you know tomorrow night what my findings are its damn frustrating.

Hi Ged, curiosity got the better of me just been round and had a look, there's four wires to the coil +15 =black wire, same terminal is white wire, opposite side terminal 1 white/black stripe, white/ white black stripe, the two spare plugs are one is oblong two spade terminals with black wire/purple stripe black wire, the other is a single spade with white wire, can't see anywhere where they could go.

Hi Ged, right behind the alternator or just under the coil, I don't remember seeing them when I was stripping the harness, neither were labeled.

Hi Ged, had a look at another chim today, he had the same two redundant wires behind the alternator, I reset the timing cars firing but just won't catch there's a strong smell of fuel so I think the car is flooding, no sign of any leaks, so after 6 hours trying to start it I am throwing the towel in, I'm booking it in on Monday with xworks at wesham, I'm going to ask him to get it running, bleed the brakes and clutch, too low for me, and set the geometry up, I'll leave the mot till everything else is done is interior, dash and bodywork, so mot will be the last thing.

Ok mate. Nothing wrong with handing it over to someone - the art of engineering is knowing when to hand something over.
I'll put money on it being something very simple and you thinking "why didn't I find that?" but hey, that's how we learn.

Hi Ged, they have managed to start the car today but its running rough, so they will give it a good going over next week to determine why, I'm just glad the managed to start it, they have setup the geometry too and corrected a couple of faux pas that I made, so all in all things are looking good.
