I've found the thread from Pete Mac in search, Pete if you read this are you up for making some?

Guys, I have all the gear, the gel coat for moulds the GRP mat, the resin, wax, release agent etc. but what I didn't have is a cover for the clutch master cylinder nor a way around making one. I had some ideas but the best option would be to take a mould off Quinny's if he is willing. My intention would be to produce moulds for all the hatches/covers and make them available to the Griff/Chimp fraternity. Haven't worked out how that would work yet as I hadn't planned to go into major scale production but I would like to share everything that I get out of this - anything to keep these cars on the road - I also need to finalise how I'm going to fix the hatches.

Quinny, I could PM you my address with a promise not to break it. I am back to Kazakhstan next week for 5 weeks but then could take a mould off your cover as soon as I get back, say 2nd week in December and then get it straight back to you - if I fcensoredk it up (which I don't intend to), then I promise to replace it.

PeteGriff seems to be a bit of a mentor on the production side. Pete, got any better ideas?

Pete

What about those of us who want a new cover chipping in and buying one from a breaker and getting a reduced cost for the finished article?
Or we find someone in the middle of a body-off rebuild and borrow theirs

That would work, maybe Fiberon would be willing to make one if enough people were interested, they make Estoril wheel centres

Out of curiosity Pete, how does this thing work

It looks like 2 pieces because of the screws but how do you think the thing on the body is attached.

I'm interested because I know you need a good seal on these things otherwise you get engine bay heat blowing down into the drivers side footwell, but I also now what a proper PITA it is to get the silicone out when you need access.
If we find a good way of attaching it maybe the hole could be made a tad bigger. I felt like a ruddy gynaecologist changing the brake master on mine!

I think that is one piece a dome with a rim attached with screws into rivnuts I would glue a 2mm thick neoprene gasket or maybe a bead of silicone to the underside to seal

I heard from Julian at Fiberon he would be willing to make these if the new owner would let him take a mold

I modified my original one by building up the rim with chopped mat and resin which I then rasped and sanded to shape. I glued some black silicone sheet to the back of the rim to act as a watertight seal. I reinforced the inside of the wing at the screw points and used small Rawlplugs to screw into, but you could glass in some captive nuts. It was a bit fidly but not a difficult job.

Hi paul,

I quite like this as well. the bathroom sealent looks awful smile
I may look into making this when I get the car back.
should be doable with some rivnuts or some M6 threaded wood inserts.
hopefully this will go a bit smoother than the airboxes biggrin
which I'm still struggeling with biggrin

Last I heard Julian at Fiberon had a prototype and was going to produce some, I'll give him a call next week to get an update
