Deposits placed now can be applied to either.

from the updated 'Noise' page :

"I’d Like to place a deposit on a convertible – can I do that now?

We are not yet taking deposits for convertible cars."

Ah.. I had almost phoned today to get in on the action but it's gotta be a convertibuble for me.

I think it's fantastic that so many people are willing to commit at this stage, and if we shelve the concern over whether the car will actually be built for a moment, I think for me the biggest risk is that if we look at the Tuscan as a good example.. how long was it after launch that they made a whole raft of updates to make the car better, 9 months or so was it? Whilst mk1's seem to be gaining in value at the moment, the very very early ones are often the ones that people say you should avoid.
Even the well established manufacturers often have to iron out issues post launch even with millions spent in R and D, so I would be going into an early car with eyes open.

On a much more positive front, Les does seem tuned into this type of concern hence the LE model will work out slightly better value than the subsequent series production. The comms have been clear from the outset, and not showing any details until they're in a much firmer position to be sure that they'll make it into production. He's engaging with the TVRCC which despite it's odd issues, from the senior club officials, through to the RO's and every single active member, collectively they have done loads to keep the brand alive, and was one of the main reasons I ended up buying a TVR in the first place.

I have faith that the new TVR will make a cracking car, but how come companies such as Weismann couldn't make it work? They had a tie in with BMW for engines, a decent looking exotic car, and reportedly one of the best handling cars out there. Hopefully their demise was simply a funding issue that Les and his team don't have?

I was told it can be switched to the convertible so have proceeded on that basis. Probably no great advantage to placing a deposit now if you want a convertible other than possibly an early build slot.

Weisman's problem was that they borrowed far more than they needed and spunked it up the wall on fancy st to impress randoms. When the credit crunch hit they couldn't fund the debt any more.

Too much debt and not enough foundation to survive a slow down in demand was their issue.

Just like TVR would have died in the crunch anyway as it was over staffed.

The key is labour efficiency and low leverage. I'm assuming the former is covered by G Murray and hopefully they will be funding through the consortium's cash rather than comical borrowings.

It's fantastic to see so many people putting deposits down. Very much looking forward to all the updates.

Currently my head is ruling my heart on this one. I just can't reconcile the need to have something more concrete than trust. I will say my heart almost won though....

hehe If old TVR is anything to go by, limited edition means test mules. The old GT stamped everywhere.

Kudos to all you guys putting you money up, but to be honest I'm not sure I understand what a deposit means anymore.

I don't understand people suggesting they will give a deposit only if it can be taken away at any time if they decide on whim to change their mind. What does a deposit actually matter if it has no meaning.

It helps build 'excitement and awareness' plus when people physically put money down far fewer pull out at a later date. It genuinely weeds out a lot of tyre kickers.

I think they'll will convert the deposits to non refundable once the formal specs of the car are revealed so I'd assume that to be later this year?

That makes 2 of us at least. And if the car is around £80k then no chance I will ever own one and, as the second hand values will stay high for a long time, this will be just another to add to the wish list or the Lotto pays up. frown

Same here!

Sadly not in a position to put down a deposit myself but hats off to those who have. Just goes to show the TVR spirit it still very much alive and I wish Les and the team at TVR all the best for resurrecting the TVR dream, I really hope the new car is a epic as we are all hoping, with a Les, Cosworth and Gordon Murray onboard I think they have a very good chance of nailing this.

It'd be interesting to know how many deposits they've taken.
It's not going to take them long to fill at least the first years production, if not more, assuming all those placing deposits go ahead.

When Les called me yesterday 2 hours after the deposit line opened to tell me the proportion of TVRCC member to non members placing deposits he said that he thought the LE would sell out.

He's not stating exact numbers.
