Easy TOV!E, that reads a little harsh! I don't see anywhere where Grey Ghost has slagged anybody off, he's just got a view on why the 'name and shame' rule is in place.

Indeed, if you read the first line of his his second post he is actually saying the inability to post negative information is 'bad' His first post does suggest why an N&S policy need to be in place despite their being genuine complaints but there is a need to protect suppliers from 'bad' customers of which I think we all know there are many.

That's how I read it anyway. smile

Had an email stating that one of my posts was removed for contravening the N&S rules.

First time in 13 years - I feel a bit of a reb!

If you want a top job and a great price contact Ian of TorqueRVT based in Middlewich Cheshire.
I would not take my car anywhere else tbh.
So much so that if he retired I would sell the TVR!

Where am I slagging you off ?

I referred to the good posts that you and Chris placed on this thread to ensure the issue was balanced and allowed others to have view first hand experience before going down the same routes.

Bad day ?

Back in 2008 I bought my Cerb from a dealer....as usual with dealers it came with a warranty (only 3 months tho) and a fresh MOT.

Inside a couple of weeks the clutch failed....fine covered under the warranty and they agreed to pay out. But while being looked at it was found a couple of things that easily showed that thoroughness of the MOT was questionable.

So I naturally contacted the dealer and they huffed and puffed, but agreed to pay for new front disks and shocks plus fitting to be done by the same garage while the clutch was being replaced. Fine. Good even....ish ???

So work goes ahead, and when all finished, I sent the bill over. After 30 days nothing, so I took out a county court summons for the outlay that they agreed to cover, which in the end of course cost the dealer more in interest and fees ! They coughed up on the day they had to lodge their objection(s) with the court. I guess they didn't want the publicity that may attract trading standards to start sniffing around all their files !

County court proceedings are a matter of public record, but at the time neither PH or the TVRCC forums permitted the publication of good factual information. rolleyes

You would never guess tho but the dealer didn't stay in business too long !!!

As mentioned earlier somewhere, Facebook is now filling this info gap. wink

The only approach with all the specialists is to double check they have done everything (as much as you can anyway).

I have had over the years plenty of lies told to me about work being complete and lots of work where the quality was very poor. My favourite comment though has to be this one: 'Yeah we said it would be ready today but we only have 1 bloke who knows anything about chimaeras and he's been off for a few weeks. But we can give it a go and see how we get on if you want'

It is not just 'specialists' who do appalling work. As most will know from bitter experience main dealers, paint shops, fast fit centres and back street garages can all cause enormous cock ups.
The way they deal with the situation is the key.

My X3sd with "full" BMW dealer service history never had any filters replaced other than the oil filter in the first 60,000 miles. Servicing dealer said customer wouldn't pay for it. A visit from trading standards and the car was taken in and everything done properly by another dealer.
A full respray of my DB7 done at a paint shop (part of a large dealership supplying Aston, Ferrari, Maserati, Bentley Porsche etc) voted by Porsche UK as the best for 4 years running, took 3 months and Aston to intervene to sort it to a reasonable standard. Cost another £845 by a leading detailer to correct the mistakes.

The whole garage trade is littered with reports like Chris's and Zippee's. Any garage can make a mistake but if they send out work of a standard as poor as this and believe it is acceptable then don't we all have a right to know? Even on PH?

Mr Mod

I spent ages putting up my post on this subject, did not name and shame anyone, more did I even hint at all.

Why has my post been removed?

Please educate me!!!

Some of mine (although not nearly as catastrophic as yours), but over £6k spent:

Noticed this when I got it home and opened the bonnet:

Will need to get this sorted soon:

£360 painted callipers, savour the professional finish..:

Brand new rear hood with threads showing and tension wire completely missing:

In fairness, a lot was rectified, but the windscreen and callipers will be done at my cost by professionals.

have seen good and have seen soso work in the past of several outfits. e.g. for some people those kind of areas in the pictures above need to be addressed for others the job is done and they are happy with the work carried out.
it depends on the view of the customer. some are more pecky than others without judgement of the above.

in my personal opinion the work carried out in the as is condition is not acceptable and needs to be redone.
in respect to the outfit of course they should have a chance it getting things right but when taking a look
those things should not have happend in the first place but this would be for sure a different story.

the only reason i started working on my cars had been the quality work some outfits did and
it didnt match up with my expectations. so if i screw up by myself no prob if it costs some bucks
but there won´t be any outfit bill to pay......

I have only had a couple of people look after my cerbera, unfortunately one of those, for his own personal reasons, has decided to move on and try something new. Still a friend though. The second is a very well known outfit in the liphook area of Surrey. Cut along story very short, he went out of his way to ensure my car let his place running as it should.

Perhaps Ihave been very lucky.

I sued a so called specialist after they didnt fit an exhaust correctly, damaged my vehicle and it didnt even get close to their claimed noise standards. long story short, I won, they closed the business and set up elsewhere without ever paying up, even selling the questionable exhaust to someone else. I ended up significantly out of pocket correcting the issues and damage.

Now very worried!

Given that I have a severe case of road rash I will be looking at a front end respray over winter but it would seem to be a minefield.

I live near Warwick so would appreciate private email to say who is god/bad in my area. Or do I have to travel to Blackpool?

Sorry I can't pick up on the various hints but not been at this game long enough.

Contact Tony Gilbert - he will have some very good paint work contacts I would think.
If you don't know of him (I bet you do - given your location) he is a TVR specialist based @ Napton.
