Hi folks, I was wondering what I should look at. My 450 chim doesn't get the driving it should do due to work commitments, so it it usually stays in the garage on a trickle charger for 3 to 5 weeks at a time between drives. When it does go out, it start first time...settles into a fast idle....then when I drive off it then tends to splutter a little and wanting to stall, and if it does its slow to want to catch when turning over.
I had one occasion after a day out, it did similar whilst returning after a long drive whilst negotiating some town driving. It did a similar thing by not wanting to rev and stalling, then not wishing to start. After 3 or 4 attempts it was ok.

Anyone any idea's?

P's. Had a great drive over the peak district today.....never missed a beat throughout, with the exception of taking it out of the garage.

I have just finished completely renewing all ignition components on my '99 450: rotor arm, distributor cap, HT leads, ignition amp module, coil, plugs, and removing the plug extenders and using heat-proof socks instead. I took the suggestion of several other owners on PH and used BPR6EIX plugs - iridium, projecting tips and one number hotter.

As well as curing the occasional misfire that I had, the car now starts and runs beautifully from cold, with no threat of stalling.

I now think I will repeat this renewal every 30,000 miles or 5 years. The parts cost about £200 in total from one of the usual TVR parts suppliers, and you could probably get a lot of it cheaper. Well worth it IMHO.

Now if only I could solve the occasional 'dead throttle syndrome', which I suspect is a faulty throttle pot, then everything will be perfect!

One other thing you should consider replacing is the coolant temperature sensor.

It's not a starting issue, more a running issue when getting on the hotter side of normal after traffic, otherwise it's great on a run, especially after cleaning the stepper motor after advice on the owners club forum.
I've bought a new coil, leads dissi cap and arm, along with a new amplifier, so i'll try them on my next day.

Also advised to check the hose on the throttle pot, plus there 'could' be an issue with the little black box under the steering column.

....joys of tvr ownership...and I consider mine a good one! Lol

No. I got from Real Steel and they (cap and rota) came a Wells. Never heard of them...but that's not saying much though. Lol
