Whats really needed for a Griff is a two piece or folding roof panel that can be stored behind the seats so freeing up the boot. Some of the mid 80's 911 targas had this and it worked well.

I know of a company working on a two piece roof at the moment...

An observation ....

"No bodywork modifications are required, so you can refit your soft top in about 15 minutes."

"Remove soft top and assemble roof to car, fit all seals etc.: £85"

So either, it takes a hell of a lot longer than 15 minutes to put the hard top on rather than taking it off, or their hourly rate is £340 per hour (£85 for 15 mins work).

I like the Griffith one. Like the Chim one, too - but think it looks a little like the older Merc SLs at the back. A bit. Maybe. Ish.

I suppose the plan is that in the summer you take it off Rich...
All we need then is a tonneau cover to protect it from summer showers

What about the velcro type stuff around the back, is that taken off or just covered over? It doesn't look bad imo. Don't know whether I would be tempted though, where my Griff lives in the garage and has never leaked yet.

... they have also been known to dabble in the odd bit of conveyancing, litigation, etc.

Is it just me or does the Chim actually look pretty damned good with the hard top on?

Just you I prefer the Griff but I'm obviously biased.

You're right, the Griff does look better, and I am hugely biased in favour of it, as it's my car!!

The reason is that you can be sure that every bolt around the back of the roof will be siezed when it comes to taking it off the first time. And seeing as they are a real pig to get to, it makes sense that this is allowed for, instead of a extra £ suprise when it comes to paying for it

Once the new bolts are in place and have been covered in copperslip, then in theory, when it comes to removal, they will undo easily.
Also its a pig to get the seals set so they seal properly, and this is included in this.

Thats the reason for the labour content!

We had an E30 BMW with a hard top - totally transformed the car in winter. We put the hard top on when the clocks go back in the winter and took it off in March. We had a special bracket that fitted on the wall of the garage and a custom made cover so storage was no problem.

Hard tops for E30 beemers were like rocking horse poo - got nearly £1k for it by selling it seperate to the car.

It was well worth having, cuts road noise, draughts and the rear screen was heated too.
