Crashed into armco spinning, pretty smashed up bodywork but no obvious chassis damage. Broken off front near side (broken upto and including front light), damaged fibreglass all along side and broken rear nearside corner and smashed splitter, 2 broken spiders. Engine started first time and drove from recovery vehicle onto my drive.

First question, as I am still waiting for insurance assessment, is this amount of damage likely to result in car being written off?
If damage is only bodywork, how easy is it to get replaced? Any suggestions of where I should direct insurance company for repairs as while I was sitting by the side of the road after the accident they were asking me where I think they should look to get repairs done (no approved repairer requirements). Cambridgeshire area.
What else should I be looking out for?

Many thanks for any help.

They could very well write it off.

Try to buy it back off the insurance and get plasticman (David Hillis) to repair it.

I had similar with my T350 2 years ago. Front 3/4 and rear qtr. Was borderline but was repaired as a standard job.
Personally I'd send it to somewhere like surface and design. DO NOT use a place in Bishops Stortford, pm me if you want further details.

Highly unlikely to write it off in my opinion if you impress on them from the start you don't want it writing off.

When I had my 'excursion' into the Armco on the M6 Toll judging by your description I did much more damage to my car than you did and there was never a question of it being written off. Classic Line underwritten by Equity Red Star with excellent service the whole way through and the repair was a 5 figure sum.

Surface and Design would be my choice, all good ex TVR guys.

+ 1 - Plasticman is as good as it gets for fibre glass repairs and he is not far from you in Beds.

Your profile says you are in Norfolk Jon...hope you didn't spin out at the same diesel-coated roundabout on the A11 near Attleborough that I did back in August.

Just had mine repaired by Chris Brown over in Downham Market - he knows his glassfibre and works closely with Matt Smith (TVR Guru) who is on the same industrial estate. He is able to give insurance quotes and so I got my insurer to use him instead of whoever they use for normal car repairs.

he sorted this out...

to this...

He even got someone to put new stripes on (Bonus)!

its never looked so good. wink

Try Autotech Prestige near Bedford,
Rick is a genius when it comes to working with TVR bodies.

As these cars take an age to repair having a courtesy car can tip the balance as to write off or not

Worthing thinking about if they want to write the car off

So sorry to read this Jon. Give Mat a call, and see if Chris Brown can do it for you. At least it's local and Mat can see to the mechanical parts for you.

If Chris cannot collect it let me know as I have a trailer these days, with a winch, if needed.

Worth giving STR8SIX a call.

They seem to offer an end to end service including dealing with the insurance company. They have the chassis jigs should that need checking and have won many an argument with insurance companies that are too quick to write off rather than repair.

Fibreglass work normally done in Blackpool.

Blimey Jon, sorry to hear about your plight. Made me do a double take when I saw your photo's as mine is a Silver 2002 car as well. Had to have a quick look to make sure that it's still safely tucked up.

Hope that they repair it for you ready for next Spring.

A large part of the equation is the money the insurance firm may feel they need to pay out to cover a replacement vehicle to you while your TVR is off the road.

If your Tamora is a second car and no replacement is required advise them of this, might be the difference between it being repaired and being classed as a Cat D.

Just to add another potential repair place... Ric at www.autotechprestige.com over in Milton Keynes. He sorted my bodywork out after a small excursion into a hedge but was very helpful in dealing with the insurers. I believe he's painted a number of PHers cars over the years as well.

Forgot about Rick - definitely give him a call if Blackpool is too far away.
