Hi Folks,
The headlamp reflectors are looking pretty poor now on my 450. I have seen previous postings on options (which I now cannot find) such as Lupo headlamps (which I don't like), fitting LH-drive reflectors upside down (which I am not keen on as the beam pattern is apparently not quite right but can pass an MOT with adjustment).

Has anyone successfully had the reflectors re-silvered ?

Thanks.

Just done mine. The prices for re-chroming were the same or more than new reflectors (eek) and would take 4-6 weeks. The left hand reflectors come as they are and you need to drill them yourself where they are marked. I didn't fancy that option and had a pair of Lupos I thought I'd fit. However as I'm no expert in body work I gave up. There's a lot of cutting back of the headlamp recess and the cover to make them fit.
So I bought 2 new reflectors at the silly money and even that was a pain. One of the holes where the screws passes through the bodywork pulled out so I had to make up a bracket to repair.
Whichever way you go, do get a set of fittings as the old ones will be seriously corroded.

I did post about getting more reflectors in a while back but with only 1 person interested it was not worth the hassle as i need to get about 4 sets in to make it sensibly priced.

Hi there,
Thanks for the replies. Can you still get new RH-drive reflectors then ?
If yes, where from please.

I have found a company in Birmingham that can do the re-silvering for around £70 per side and would normally take 2-3 weeks but said as mine was a daily driver, they could fast-track it through for me in about a week. I was going to go with that.

Not used them myself but I've seen recommendations for silchrome on here. It's on my list to do for this autumn. I've got the bowls from sonnylad which I'm guessing are the upsidedown LHD ones?

Frankly the beam pattern I've got right now is rubbish (and dim) so as long as I pass the MOT and can see the road without blinding others, I'm happy!

I have been told from a reliable source in the trade that these replacements are not the same quality as the originals, they may come in a Bosch box but unfortunately the chroming is pretty poor quality frown.re-chroming the originals may be the only option?

I must have been lucky then. Both were good quality and the chrome was even and quite thick. They give a 100% better output than the rusty ones thumbup
