. . . LE´s and GM´s comments "You´ll know you´re alive when you drive one!" and "We´ll bring back the muscle-car" set the bar. . .
I always felt most alive while skiing, on the World Cup runs, on the absolute ragged edge. You really never can feel as alive as when you're staring down death.

Let's hope the new TVR will manage to imbue its drivers with some sense of that feeling, without them having to drive the car at the far edge of ten tenths.

Best regards,
Bernard.

Never has my mindset gone so quickly from 'feck it I'm going for it' to 'any second now I'm going to die horribly' as it did when I did my first black run.... one of those things you never forget thumbup

Yeah this emotion ^^^^
Revisited with my first properly powerful motorbike.
And again with my first properly powerful car.
And then... I bought a Cerbera... biglaugh
It's that essence they need to capture.

But much of that danger probably emanated from an ancient chassis design that lacked rigidity. I get the feeling that the new frame the cars will be built around will be properly good and so the car is likely to be far less jittery. The reality is that my car is far less fun to drive at modest speed than my old Griff or T350 because it is so much more planted. You probably need to be doing 100 to get the same buzz that the Griff delivered at 60. On top of that, modern electrics make everything much smoother and more refined.

...also much of that perceived danger emanated from having to rely on my own imperfect skills rather than trust the electrickery to keep me facing forwards! Devices which made things like the Nissan GTR devastatingly fast yet, I understand, boring.
The new TVR definitely needs to have the capacity to scare, this quote of Walter Rohrl sums it up for me:

"Developed on the Nurburgring" has a lot to answer for!!

Because it's such a fast circuit, Cars developed there are fairly inert, and have massive grip you can't actually use on the road........

So, as long as the new TVR is "developed on the B660" all will be good ;-)

(which is also why talk of "LeMans" and "underfloor aero" all fill me with dread)

Potentially hang in there.. if it doesn't come in at the eluded 55k and comes in at say 75k, Id surmise that there will be quite a number of people looking to be bought out!
I agree if it's 75k a good number will decide to forfeit
Where did this £55k figure come from? Only time I've seen that it from detractors saying it would have to cost that to be competitive etc.

I've seen Les talk a number of times and the figures suggested have never been that low. He suggested the bottom figure would be around £65k but you probably wouldn't want that one as it would be a base engine, no toys. Figures suggested were £85k for the launch edition which was all the toys, carbon tub and bits, plus special LE bits and paint not to be repeated

I know what you're saying. I had a Capri when a colleague had an Evo. Fun could be had sideways in a capri at a relatively safe 30+ mph so it didn't go badly wrong if you cocked up. On the Evo you were going 3 times as fast to get the same effect.

But thats just sideways. Through the twisties and the acceleration, more is best biggrin

Hi Aaron. Glad it was firstly, readable and secondly, of interest.

It was thanks to V8GRF who had been asked by TVR if he could source a Typhon for them and GMD to look over and saw fit to ask me if I'd like to help. It was a very interesting day. I'd very briefly met GM back in the early 90s at a McLaren event but never actually had a conversation. I guess I didn't really know what to expect as I arrived at his office but I guess I just thought a couple of TVR people would have a look at the car and that would be it but once the car was taken into one of their garages about a dozen engineers and designers all descended on it. It was really at that point that I realised just how serious this venture is. They have a lot of people working on all aspects down to the finest details and I think while they were totally confident that they could build a car they were investing maximum effort to ensure that car was a true TVR. LE's enthusiasm was also infectious and it is very clear that he understands exactly what a TVR is and that while you cannot build those cars anymore and have to build something for the 21st century it has to carry the DNA.

I still think that it is a mammoth task and that Brexit has probably made it harder still but it was clear to me that they were not fannying about.
I enjoyed your article on the Typhon, very well written and informative. It did make me laugh when you mentioned about TVR breaking the usual British etiquette of not talking to each other. All sounds very positive.

Cool. Was just a matter of time before a U.K. based supplier looked into importing these off the shelf bits from the US. There'll be a nice big beefy Tremec Magnum behind it too which makes life much easier! Let's hope that the ECU TVR end up using is something easily accessible by the aftermarket. Oh, and it goes without saying the usual unbeatable Power warranty?
