Smells like bks. Like asking you to out run me in a race to my en-suite from my garden shed. I'll win as I know my way round.

The viper ACR does a Nurburgring time of 7:11.... a Lamborghini Huracan Performante does it in 6:52 if that helps add perspective
OK, have found the videos, all at Laguna Seca with the same driver..

Firstly there was 918 vs P1 where 918 won (later braking and better acceleration out of tight corners).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fnTZKvX5j

Viper lap

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXP3Eij2GGA

(The tyres are bespoke which did have me wondering if they are more like road legal qualifying tyres. I also expect the tyres could have come out of blankets too!)

http://kumhotyre.co.uk/kumho-news/bespoke-tyres-fo...

....Anyway the point of my original post was to highlight the fact that a front engine rear wheel drive car that has a clutch pedal can punch above its (power to) weight with sticky tyres and downforce. (& not to argue lap times!).

The under body aero could be better on the new TVR than the Viper assuming more forward exiting exhausts.

You do realise that video was published by a company called "Dodge"... i think theres some clues..

I kind of get your point, but like I said stick it on a track with other manufacturer supplied and driven cars and its blown off the road... and it has driver aids.

The price quoted as mentioned above was for the LE version which is full house on the majority of the options so the base car will be cheaper with an option list to spec it up but the LE will have features not available on later cars.

No GM wasn't there, I'm guessing he isn't trying to steal TVR's thunder and isn't a guy who seeks the limelight anyway.

All the depositors I spoke to were mostly happy and all leaving their deposits on the car. There are a surprising number of folk who have never owned a TVR and indeed
have/do own some serious cars indeed one guy I spoke to is buying a new McLaren while he waits for the TVR.
Agreed - there was some serious money on show; a school car park can rarely have seen such a collection of cars! As well as the obvious (extensive) range of TVRs, there were Bentley's, Ferraris ( a 488 and something that looked like a Dino but I couldn't see much of it), an Aston Martin GT3 (I think), and a few more.

I did half wonder whether a transporter was going to turn up while we were away and nick the lot, mind.

I'm still really, really excited as a result of the REVEAL, I'm staying on the deposit-holder list, and I'm very impressed with:

a) the thought, design, details and technology that's going into the car
b) the discipline of the attendees to keep as much of the 'secret' as possible so far

I was a little disappointed with:

a) the bits of the jigsaw still missing from it being the final car look - exterior and interior
b) the head-on look of the car (bonnet mainly - probably just me - every one I spoke to like it !!)

But I loved.... the front (below the bonnet), the side profile, the rear, the roof line, the underneath, the 'it-will-be-400bhp/tonne' (I think that's already been stated for a while publicly), the 'uniqueness' of the LE cars... if you can call 300/400/500 cars unique :-)

The price might be a challenge (for me) but plenty of time to work all that out and sell somebody/something/somelimbs

Don't think I've given anything away or said anything i shouldn't... Can't wait to see the next stage.. the public reveal with the real, working car !!!

I was surprised at the variety in the car park too, there was amongst the TVR's three fezzers; a 488, an FF and a proper 246 classic Dino, what do they go for nowdays £300k+. A smattering of Astons, including Smee with his GT8 too, overall a good eclectic selection of car nuts imho.

I'm with you; the direct head on was the least impressive, they need to work on that imho....

Interesting that It's Me has put his name down for one. If they want to sell 2000 cars a year it's clear that their core target buyer isn't owners of older models but large numbers of buyers of status brand vehicles where 'unboxing' and being 'respected' by small boys is important. smile

I can't wait for the Youtube videos...
My new TVR - straight to Dub Customs to get the Tywraps colour coded.
Taking the TVR down to B&Q for a new glovebox catch.
Hedge backwards : TVR vs John Deere.

Off to see it on Saturday; here's hoping... I'm glad no spoilers have been posted as I certainly didn't want to go with any preconceived ideas.

But re the weight and power, my Tuscan (challenge-based, not road-car-based) was weighed for the SuperLap series at Knockhill at 1140Kg - but that included driver (a lardy me), race gear...and since I wanted it to be as heavy as possible to avoid power/weight penalties...that was with a full tank of fuel (50 litres) and of course all other fluids ready to go. That means the car alone is near-enough 1000Kg.

Now that's with a Chevrolet LS motor rather than a Ford, but an all-alloy LS. It's one of the later Challenge cars with the carbon/kevlar tubs; but more importantly that 1000Kg does not include side windows/winders, rear window, roof, boot, heater, air-con, power steering, brake servo, ABS, door panels, carpets, sound-deadening etc etc. So I've always been a bit sceptical over the weights since I'm sure I couldn't make the Tuscan into a 'fully practical' road car for just a few 100Kg extra.

As to power, the Tuscan has been dyno'd at a true 500+ HP, so genuinely a 500Hp/tonne car...and so I'm going to be disappointed if the new car drops below 400hp/tonne. But if it's a revvy motor (as it should be with the Ford) it should feel OK on a 6-speed box I guess. With the power in the Tuscan being there throughout the rev range I don't think it feels that quick; I know it is quick because I can see how it performs against other cars on track, but without the high-rev rush of power...if anything, 500hp/tonne feels a bit docile to the extent I've run it on slicks and semi-slicks in the wet/damp.

So I am expecting it to be quite a bit heaver than quoted; I'm just hoping Cosworth have wrung a few more HP out the motor.
re weight. Having just taken the front seats out my Cerbera, Id suggest theres a fair amount to be saved right there biggrin

biggrin HAHAHA! Very good! But the Wheeler era is sadly now past. Under the new design and engineering regime I would expect all the Tywraps to be gold for improved heat dissipation. wink

Yes, at the session I attended there were three Aston's, a McLaren 570S, numerous TVR's and other assorted prestige marques in the car park. Certainly looks like the new TVR is managing to reach well beyond the existing TVR owner base. In fact, one youngster I spoke to said the new model would be his first TVR.

So deposit holders only, does that mean Shmee has his money down for one?

Seems a little like the target market for the new car is not the old TVR brigade from what I read (at least that's my interpretation). So why would you brand it as a TVR, it's got no tangible links with TVR that I can understand?

Surely the name TVR is synonymous with poor quality and reliability??

Dare I say that Astons and Dino cars are not noted as the pinnacle of reliability?

That, too. But first and foremost a simple, straightforward, completely analogue real driver's car with just enough practicality and creature comforts to be viable as a first or second car instead of a trinket in ones toy cupboard - exactly the sort of thing the British have always been good at, something that established sports car makers don't make anymore and will always have a strong appeal to a certain group of people.

I can well imagine that a car like this, for instance, will attract current Aston drivers who feel the marque is going too far towards the mainstream luxury lifestyle-y thing with bling limited editions loaded with stick-on carbon, the cynical marketing of the Bond connection et cetera rivalling the current naff Ferrari image... That, or Morgan owners who just discovered the 21st century. biggrin

Both good points I just don't understand why you would introduce a stigma when there is absolutely no link?
