Can't understand why a 4k Griff needed a complete nut and bolt job in the first place.

This prompts me to give my house a lick of paint and put it on the market saying - "this is effectively a new house"... rotate

Depends where is was stored!

They could have fitted chromed indicator bulbs on the front.

Shame, it could have been worth £68K if it did't have them really stupid looking lights on the back.

There isn't a Griff worth having for under about 20k at the moment. An SE would be 30k minimum. To tear one down and rebuild/respray/retrim completely would cost nearly the same again - Central TVR charge about 15k I think. Add on low mileage surcharge, shocks and other bits...
I'd like to know why a presumably undamaged car with 4,000 miles on the clock needed all that doing though...

Some form of kidology, after seeing this add you might think a 30K griff is cheap.
Dealers trying to push up the market, Gord knows, keep it up I say hehe

Have seen many posts over the years telling me Chims and Griffs are identical, out of interest does anyone know what is the highest price paid for a Chim secondhand?

Well it's what you would expect from a dealer - turn a negative, just over 4k miles, into a positive and charge a premium for it.
Anyone buying a Griff for that money really needs to get a grip laugh

At a guess I would say nobody has ever paid more than £24-5k for a Chim. The red 5.2 that was subject to a bit discussion on here a while ago was up for £30k iirc it's now £20k. there was a green mk3 up for £30k that came right down then ended up at Fernies so that may have reached my best guess.
I was told by a garage that a fully rebuilt Griff would be getting close to Bespokes figure, can't see it myself but if that's what they want, then fair enough.

It will be needing another full restoration before it sells at that price. He's in for a long wait.

The original one with a few thousand miles on it sold recently for £70K IIRC, so maybe this one isn't that far off the mark. Even tatty SE's go for well over £30K these days.

I guess the old adage applies: they're only worth what people will pay for them. It just smacks of hypocrisy that I was told by multiple garages that I was having a laugh thinking I'd get around £23k for my excellent example, though I guess there was ulterior motives in play there.

Yep, recently I got my cars valued (retail prices)and pleased with the result, but when I said, ok what would you give me for X, it is a very different story. But that is the motor trade, buy as low as possible, sell as high as possible.

I suspect if you have a really good example you'd get far more selling privately.
