Surrey Roof improvements - Part II

Just to put some positive input into the thread............

I recall when I was sat in the town square in Siena, Tuscany, enjoying a rather large Gin and Tonic - My TVR was parked up with the Surrey Roof on.

We enjoyed a fantastic holiday, ( and it didn't rain), but the furthest thing from my mind was the fit of the roof.

My wife had all of her luggage and I was allowed to carry a spare toothbrush, just in case.

Don't stress so much over the Surrey roof. We just get out there and enjoy our car and the freedom of longer distance touring.

Mines a good fit. I'm sure many are a good fit.

Good advice, this is what I did with mine. Tried on an example one of his products at the Griff Growl, ordered it and picked it up at the next Growl. He also has samples of the fabrics used so you can match them against your existing roof. I knew exactly what I was getting and how it fitted on my car before I made a decision.

My roof is not an exact match in colour (new fabric vs 17 year old fabric) and the fit is not perfect but to be fair is keeps me mainly dry in the rain and has done me very well over the last 4 or so years. For £500 you cannot really grumble.

All good points chaps, TBH my Surrey top has only enhanced my TVR enjoyment.

Since buying it I drive "roof down" more often simply because it's so much faster & easier to remove, handle, stow in the boot and refit if I get caught out in a shower.

I'm a Griff 500-owner from Germany and in search of a "Surrey"-folding-roof for my car. Can anyone give me an actual email from Mr. Roger Morris? - The old one "[e-mail]" isn't valid anymore...

Does anyone know, whether Mr. Morris still builds these folding-roofs?

As this thread has been resurrected I thought I should share my further improvement. I bought a couple of thin 500mm steel rulers and unglued the folded wind-flaps so that I could insert the steel rulers into the flaps to make them more rigid. I did this mod a couple of years ago and have found this a very effective way of keeping the flap firmly pressed on the inside of the window. The roof can be half folded with the rulers in place but they need to be withdrawn for full folding.

I've not noticed any of these issues with mine but you can be sure I will now they've been highlighted.

One issue I did have was that the joint on the folding mechanism looks like it has potential to damage the fabric while folded and stored. I bought some neoprene sleeves to cover mine so that the pointy parts don't rub on the roof fabric. They where less than £4 delivered when I bought them but even so at less than a tenner I'd say they're worth it to protect your investment.

I also had the nipping of the fabric Warren, an oven glove on each one sorted that, overall not a perfect fit but good enough to be happy.
