A Panda, it's ace. Will this holiday romance prove a disaster if I 'get in touch' with her back home?....

Brilliant cars. I had one as a rental once, seatbelts didn't work and the door handle fell off. Well it was the Seat version.

I always seem to do this with rentals, but the Panda I hired with my sister in Greece somewhere is seriously one of my favourite cars ever. Absolutely loved it. I've since nearly bought one back here, but fear it may drive about as well as Sangria tastes at home...

1st holiday romance .... Lancia Yypsilon ... Fantastic little steer and was great throwing it around Ibiza the summer is was there for 16weeks back in 1999

2nd holiday romance ... Mk1 Renault Twingo, beat to with every panel dinted when I picked it up and the front bumper attached with cable ties ... It was the foldable fabric roof version, I loved it to bits and left it unlocked and open everywhere it went, spent the first 6weeks with it in Gran Canaria in 2000. Bought it after the 6wk rental for peanuts in the hope of using it for another 6weeks on the island and driving it back to the UK ... It tore my wallet (and heart) apart and totally gave up the ghost after another 5weeks use and abuse, in its defence being left to the elements probably wasn't the best for it

Have contemplated another mk1 Twingo on more than a few occasions over the years since but can't bring myself to do it

Go for it. You can get a very clean 100HP one for £2500. Its never going to set the world alight but ive heard people rate them very highly. Ex GF of mine had a 1.2 base model and absolutely loved it, never had any problems with it.

They are good cars, we've got a 2010 basic 1.1 in white, very little in the way of accoutrements and it's a hoot to drive!

Well, that is if your journey's are quite short (<15 miles), don't involve motorways, steep hills, or carrying lots of people.

It's not our only car, but I often take it for short journey's and general running about out of choice. There's nothing pretentious about them - there's something nice about driving basic transport that just does the job. Cheap to run too - I'm a fan.

Before I went I thought my Saab Aero/hot wasn't 'quick'. After a week in a Panda then back in mineci realised just how much I had to work the Pandas gears. I might look out for a Panda100hp instead.

Same for me. The holiday was in 2005 and I met her in an ugly rental car multistorey in the north of Italy. It was love on first sight.

I did not take her home with me, but finally brought a sister of her into my life two years ago. Panda 1.2 from 2005 in red with blue seats. Utterly brilliant for urban commuting. Nothing has fallen off, and everything still works (except the head gasket, but thats minor of course and was easily mended).
