Toying with the idea of a 5 litre replacement as i have upgraded the brakes to vents and 4 pot calipers and will be changing the suspension to adjustable coilovers. Taking the engine and box out next year to put a rebuilt box in so any pitfalls to look for with the bigger lump ie will it go straight in etc any mods needed anywhere etc?

Cheers lads. Probably need a secondary petrol tank like or even a third one in fact.

Jack is unlikely to reply as he is taking a break from the forums.

You'll have wiring issues if you're going to fit a Serp type engine. The other issue is the rev counter will need different internals.

Alternatively, you could go none Serp 4.3 BV route and have a 'sweeter' engine.

Or go 3.9 and super charger.

Irregardless, the wiring could be dealt with by installing Megasquirt or Megajolt which The Hatter has had very good results with.

Not clued up with the technical side of it which could be a problem. Non serpentine was the way i wanted to go as i am limited with knowledge regarding ancillary bits on the serp. My old pal carob had his 400 at v8 developments and they turned it into the fastest thing ive ever driven, but very pricey. I'll have to weigh up my options when i remove the engine and box at the turn of the year. Am i right in saying that non serpentine limits me to 4.3???

I'm not entirely sure what the limitation is (other than your wallet) but you can certainly go to 4.5 pre-serp. Whichever route, as Keith suggested, fully mapped fuel and ignition is the best way to maximise gains.

Sounds like a good project. Go for the AP racing clutch plate too it will be trouble-free.

Or you can do what I plan to do and that is to use the carb setup....

Best budget option is to get 4.6 with a refresh and TopHat Liners, fit a decent camshaft, and swap the covers back to Pre-serp. as your swapping the camshaft you can fit the older dissy driven one, and a crank spacer so you can use the old front crank pulley, your get 270-280 BHP with no other mods. or you could keep it serp and run an after market ECU.

I had a v8d 5 ltr pre seep in my 350, we did away with the 4cu and put an aftermarket ecu system in, also needed an Emerald signal changer for the rev counter.
Went with one of their cams, big valve heads and balanced etc plus did away with air flow meter and distributor and went with coil packs, also had to change fuel pressure regulator and fit bigger fuel pump, already have the front vented discs but 1st gear is next to useless so a longer ratio diff is in the planning just money is in short supply at present.
Yes she loves air and fuel air and fuel. Not 100% there yet but still got time.
