got a "slow" right in the middle of my front tyre & found a small self-tapper as the culprit.

have seen tubeless repair kits online & was wondering if any of you guys have used or have an opinion?

cheers.

This sort of thing ?

I would suggest, as does the description, Emergency use only. I carry one as a useful get me home if stuck in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday evening.
Get a proper "mushroom plug" fitted from inside the tyre as soon as possible, imho.

I plug my tyres all the time with the "emergency only" strings without any drama

It doesn't say it on that one either. It does however say 'A great gift for your lover', i'll remember that come Feb 14th.

They used to be common, supplied as OEM kits on BMW (?) motorbikes at one time. I've had one in for must be around a couple of years now, I keep thinking "I must change that" but the tyre doesn't go down so I keep forgetting......

It says 'Emergency use', not 'Emergency use only' there is a difference.
We've had this debate once or twice before, they are carried by tyre fitters here including the AA as a 'get you home' device, but people have realised they are much more durable than that. When I found out the tyre fitters I know use them as a permanent repair on their own vans I bought a kit and have used it a few times myself saving a lot of time and money.
Apparently classed as a permanent repair in other parts of the World (the rest of Europe) I think it's up to the user to decide. Like any tool in the hands of a chancer, poor DIYer or person of little common sense it could go either way if used wrongly, but then so could many other DIY repairs.
