280bhp is a good figure for a 500, and 280bhp with a knackered cam is unreal!

Agreed, at a rolling road shoot out some years ago, the best 500 produced no more then 275BHP.
There was nothing wrong with your engine Richard, should have kept it
My figures were lb/ft torque, not bhp, in the comparison - figures taken from elsewhere in the thread...There was nothing wrong with your engine Richard, should have kept it
Ok it's had a little inlet work, mapping and a decent exhaust system, but still the same engine that left the factory almost 20 years ago...
I love the Griffith/Chimaera 500.
The suggestion that a Cerbera of any type (for the record, they're all much of a muchness, be it S6 or either AJP) would be slower than the RV8 car doesn't really sit with me. Everything from the Cerbera forwards was a big jump up in performance, IMO.

Certainly slower then mine 0-60 accelerating and also mid range acceleration. But who's counting The suggestion that a Cerbera of any type (for the record, they're all much of a muchness, be it S6 or either AJP) would be slower than the RV8 car doesn't really sit with me. Well, by that same logic, Hillman Imps are faster than TVR S1s, because I own a Hillman Imp that's faster than my TVR S1
Now i'm interested! been looking at Imps for a while as a classic itch.Loved my Imp Huskey when I was 17 or 18, (probably about 1974). Bought it with a blown head gasket, freed off the pistons with a lump of wood and a hammer, stripped and rebuilt on a shoestring, shimmed the tappets, all with a few bent spanners and an original Black and Decker workmate as a bench that my mum bought me, happy days!

One thing to consider, OP, when looking at some of the very high BHP and torque figures on the older V8 cars, is that the owners have spent quite a few quid to get them to this stage.
Rubbish, as far as my wife knows the whole upgrade as cost no more than £462Bargain!
