its a kenwood front panel off jobbie.....
ive got power to the unit...ie: when you remove the front panel the little red security light flashes, but
the front panel hasnt got power to it. so nothing works. Ive had the unit tested, all ok and working so
ive wired something up wrong somewhere?
ok, wiresfrom the unit are : brown, yellow, blue
these are connected to blk, red and yellow...
ie:brown/blk, yellow/red, yellow/blue.
the unit has a nissan connecter on it and i have a
blue and a orange/grey wire left? all fuses have been checked on the car and on the unit. anyone got any ideas......oh and the car is my ford fiesta!
cheers guys for any help , its driving me mad! mark

Hmmm.

Well, I don't know too much about Festers, but having fitted a couple of stereos into cars....

There are usually two power leads that go into the back of a stereo, one is the "Always on" lead, which keeps presets and time on some stereos, not to mention where you are on the CD, and volume. This sounds like it might be connected, and hence the flashing security light.

The other power lead is the switched one, which controlled by the ignition key position. On Fords, this will be on for all ignition positions besides "Off". I would start by looking at this lead using a voltmeter, or failing that you might be able to use a light bulb.

Happy Hunting!

Do you have the manual for the stereo?

It sounds like you don’t have your switched live connected properly, this is normally the red wire from the stereo, the yellow is normally permanent live, and blue is normally the output wire to switch on amps and electric aerials etc. black is normally earth and orange is the illumination wire but some stereos don’t have this. If you take it to the place that tested it, you could get them to mark the wires for you, then all you have to do is get either a volt meter or LED and test the wires on your car to see which is which.

Shot in the dark on a total eclipse whilst barking up what you thought was a tree but turns out to be a T Rex leg....

If its a flip down before removing, could be the flexible pcb that connects has split. Happend on my pioneer. Power to the unit etc but not the face.

It's the power to the face off bit - as already mentioned this needs constant live feed to function (and remember all your presets) - find the yellow lead at the back, it might be labelled "battery", and wire it to the cigarette lighter live lead, or the clock live feed. I've had exactly the same problem with previous installs - a professional installer even wired mine incorrectly -

What model no. of kenwood is it? I've got a KRC878 and could scan the wiring diagram pages and post em early next week. An older kenwood would have virtually the same wiring as its all meant to be standard these days.

What age is the Fiesta? I'd expect a newer model to either fit directly to the kenwood or for the ford plug to be mated to the kenwood plug (standard plug usually found on all modern stereos) using an adaptor from Halfords.

If the ford and/or kenwood wiring has been butchered then, er, have fun! I have in the past.

Old car with magical mystry wiring then.

Once you know what all the kenwood wires do (ie: from a diagram) then it'll be a simple case of indentifing a permanent live, ignition live, and speaker wires from the fiesta (I've never worked on a ford, old or new).

stuck a kenwood into my sierra some years back, got the adapter from halfords. the only mod was switching over the live and switched supply, which were on bullet connections for you to do it easily. Worked fine, done it a few times since with the adapters for mates who had the same problem.

You ca also wire the switched live up to the permanent live as well if needs be - a good test of if the bugger's working or not...

By the sounds of things you are missing a red wire from the head unit, Your red and yellow from the car are both power leads, one being permanent, usually yellow and the other being ignition, usually red, your black is obviously earth, you need to wire blk to brown as already done, yellow to yellow, and red to red if the other red wire can be found!!!!, Your blue coming out of the head unit should be remote, i.e. if you have a power areial or amps then this turns them on and off, or up or down with the head unit. Is the yellow wire in the car fatter than the red???
Have a look for the missing red and let me know how you get on
good luck
Richard
