Great choice of car 2gins thumbup

I'm guessing the Audi TT in your profile was your wife's wink
It was slightly adjusted from standard. I used to think Griffs and Chims were a bit cute and girly too!

What's your opinion of the 4.0 vs the bigger engine Chims? Much more choice and better fit to budget, probably better for occasional use on my commute too. But I wonder how long until I want more. I kind of feel like a TVR should be able to hold its own against modern stuff, at least the 2.0 TDI brigade. Can't have the leased A5 drivers showing me a clean pair of heels.

Unfortunately the 4.0 V eights are quite slow, by comparison.

Comparison to what? The answer is unfortunately a lot of modern cars.

They do go well, rev cleanly and feel reasonably quick but as you said if up against a new 2 L diesel they feel like they definitily need more power.

Of course, I have no such problem ..................

Thanks Peter, I remember you saying they were slow last week but thought that was in context of track use. I expect to find out for myself tomorrow.

You should go out on track with MSmith in his standard 4.0. You'll see how 'slow' they are.

The issue of straight line performance is pretty blurry.

From standing then the TVRs are fast and get faster with engine size increase in comparrison to 'modern' everyday cars.

On the move thought they are at a disadvantage. Modern cars with closer, more gears make better use of their power. The TVR relies on the wide torque band to give it go. Unfortunately, in this age of semi-auto 7-speed turbo cars massive torque is 'less' important.

All in very simple terms.

Don't buy a TVR thicking you'll rip the tarmac up at any speed with any slightest nudge of the throttle. They don't do that. If that is the type of 'driving' you want by an R32 GTR and wind up the booooostt.

Not my thinking at all tbh. And as for the fast VAG thing, been there, done it, worn the T shirt, suffered the exhaust drone and the boost leaks.

I get your point and have been on track with Mat, very impressive indeed for a 4.0.

Don't forget, his engine is perfect, his car is stripped down to the lightest it can possibly be and most important, he is an ace driver and carries the speed around the bends beautifully, (I still pass him on the straight)!

In the real world on the road, power is king wink

Just ask Lewis Hamilton laugh

QBee was struggling behind Mat when Mat took his 2.9 S2 round Donny last month. I am in no way, shape or form jealous of Mat's driving skill.

Thanks, I think it's a good one. Steve Heath says you need to be sure what you want and be ready to jump on it the moment you see it. That's more or less how this happened. One minute I was driving home from Wales having seen a tidy car with rusty outriggers, couple of hours later I was talking to Mr Garner about prep and deposits! :P

I'll post up more after I've collected it. Being a bit late in the day and wet I couldn't do much more than inspect it static,m but seems straight.

By way of concluding this tale I collected the car today, I'm now one of you mad buggers. My wife is now a TVR widow.

I've no doubt I'll be adding to the weight of posts asking how to fix this and that, or 'what's that noise' etc in due course.

Well chuffed! Just go to hide it from work until the upcoming pay review! bounce

Used be a selection of TVRs go to the ACE Cafe to - can't recall the night.
TVR Night is the 3rd Wednesday of the month, although it's now called 'British Sports & Performance Cars Night'

I wouldn't bother until it gets warmer and lighter, things don't really pick up until after Easter.
